Celebrate Native American Heritage!

Dear educators,

November is Native American Heritage month, a great time to start infusing your curriculum with American Indian Studies!

We've heard from many non-Native educators that teaching about a culture outside of their own can be intimidating, so our team of educators and producers has curated classroom-ready resources to help bring American Indian Studies to life for your students.

Explore our growing collection of resources for PreK-12 classrooms on wisconsinfirstnations.org, plus new PBS KIDS American Indian Studies resources designed just for early learners!

Wisconsin First Nations exemplars are growing

Our digital exemplar series features stories from Wisconsin educators who excel at teaching American Indian Studies and want to help you do the same. Check back in early 2020 for a new video featuring David O'Connor, American Indian Studies Consultant at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Learn about Native traditions on PBS KIDS!

Molly of Denali is a new PBS KIDS series following the adventures of 10-year-old Alaska Native, Molly Mabry. From fishing and building snow forts, to learning Native songs from the village elders, Molly and her community teach kids ages 4-8 about resourcefulness, family tradition and exploration. Molly of Denali is the first nationally distributed children's series to feature a Native American lead character!

The Warrior Tradition
The Warrior Tradition tells the astonishing, heartbreaking, inspiring and largely-untold story of Native Americans in the United States military. Why would Native men and women put their lives on the line for the very government that took their homelands? The film relates the stories of Native American warriors from their own points of view – stories of service and pain; of courage and fear.
