To win the climate fight, we cannot shy away from hard-to-abate industries

We are living through a moment of unprecedented shocks to our geopolitical, social, and economic systems. The International Energy Agency tells us that by 2030 carbon emissions from heavy industry must decline by 20% and by 93% before 2050 for us to achieve our climate goals. In short: There is no winning our climate fight without reinventing these industries.  CIF’s CEO Mafalda Duarte explains.

Young advocates: inspiring the next set of climate leaders

Young people are at the forefront of the climate crisis. Despite being one of the groups most vulnerable to the impacts of a changing climate, they have also been one of the most effective leaders and advocates of ambitious climate action. CIF engages with youth groups and young climate leaders.

World Maritime Day- global shipping must get greener and cleaner

The shipping industry is a keystone for the modern economy, providing transport for international goods and people, access to supplies, jobs and more. But when it comes to climate change, the maritime industry poses a significant problem. CIF is committed to being part of the solution providing access to finance, enhancing regulatory and policy frameworks, providing incentives to deploy innovative clean technologies, and developing firms’ capacity and skills.

Just energy transition knowledge exchange & learning sessions

Recently, CIF staff attended The African Climate Foundation’s Knowledge Exchange & Learning Sessions to discuss the complexities and questions around financing aspects of a just transition energy partnership.

"Just Transition is not a silo or a 'priority area'. It is increasingly woven into every project and program we take on, including our work here in South Africa...We at CIF see this moment as an opportunity. To bring to bear our years of experience, and help deliver on this first-of-its-kind model. And to support the government in translating the JET partnership commitments into a coherent investment package." - CEO Mafalda Duarte
