Annual Report 2021: New Horizons, New Pathways, New Ambitions

CIF’s Annual Report is out! From cutting emissions, to protecting forests, to improving livelihoods, our investments in 2021 continued to demonstrate the changes that well-calibrated climate finance can bring to the world. Since inception in 2008, CIF has mobilized finance for more than 375 projects in 72 countries, and proven that climate action can change lives. It can strengthen livelihoods, expand economic opportunities, and create new markets that unleash private investment. Now we need to continue to scale up – and speed up. Learn more about CIF’s impact to date, the exciting work already underway, and ambitious new initiatives coming in 2022.

CIF Trust Fund Knowledge Cafe

In June, CIF held its first in-person Trust Fund Committee meetings since 2019. It was inspiring to be back in the room together and to host several fruitful and engaging sessions. It was also an opportunity to showcase work with knowledge booths featuring CIF’s Transformational Change Learning Partnership, Development Impact and Just Transitions, Climate Delivery Initiative and Gender work.

Collective Action for World Oceans Day

Oceans sustain and support the lives of billions of people. Not just humans either — our oceans are home to 80% of all species. Yet, its health is in the balance. Humanity has taken an extractive approach to the source that covers 70% of the Earth’s surface. A CIF project in Jamaica provided a compelling model for the United Nations’ World Oceans Day which called for collective work to create a new relationship with oceans; to restore their vibrancy and bring them new life.

Rwanda Renewable Energy Fund Project: Engaging the Private Sector in Off-grid Solar Electrification

Millions of people across Africa have no electricity and it will take many years before electric grids reach all the unconnected households. But faster and cheaper “off-grid” solutions do exist in the form of solar products and mini-grids. The first four years of the planned six-year implementation of the project — the country’s largest off-grid expansion program — is examined with a focus on its delivery challenges and solutions.
