CIF’s NPC Program promotes participation of Indigenous Peoples through a unique feature – the Dedicated Grant Mechanism which aims to directly finance indigenous peoples to lead in driving nature-based solutions, while harnessing their ancient knowledge, their experience, and capacities into climate action. Dr Jane Goodall stated that CIF “recognizes the interdependency between land use, climate change, and people, and are championing this cause using their proven model through a new investment program, Nature, People and Climate, which has my support."

In August, CIF celebrated International Youth Day, highlighting the success of 10 under-35s. Over several months, they learned and were trained on fundamentals of climate adaptation, budgeting, cashflow projection, and how to execute business plans. This opportunity was made possible through the Youth Adaptation Solutions Challenge or YouthADAPT, in a partnership between CIF, the GCA, and the AfDB.

The Scaling up Renewable Energy Program in Low-income Countries (SREP) is found to be highly relevant to national-level country needs, priorities, and opportunities. This is one of the salient findings from a new independent evaluation of CIF’s innovative and ambitious program launched just over a decade ago.

Workshop on climate change and resilience, Egypt
CIF and Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation are co-hosting a two-day workshop facilitating learning to accelerate private sector engagement in climate adaptation and resilience, particularly in areas of agriculture, water, and energy.

Tackling climate change requires urgent structural changes in how goods and services are produced. CIF’s Just Transition Initiative is currently developing a Just Transition Toolbox that presents key planning steps and processes needed for a just transition. Through this lab, participants will contribute ideas, feedback, and experiences relevant to these key planning modules to improve the toolbox and reflect on how these tools could be applied in their contexts.

Transformative climate adaptation in the spotlight, #NAPExpo 2022

CIF’s team participated and led a session at the climate adaptation outreach event #NAPExpo held in Botswana. The session, “Investing in Transformational Climate-Resilient Development: the CIF Experience”, provided insights on our projects and on lessons from project design to implementation. Many country partners also provided perspectives in a session aimed at sharing challenges and successes in delivering complex climate finance programs.
