The Climate Investment Funds are proud to publish an independent evaluation it commissioned to build an evidence base that supports accountability and learning on access to renewable energy in low-income countries. The report entitled “Evaluation of Scaling up Renewable Energy Program in Low-income Countries” takes stock of SREP’s challenges and achievements to date and provides lessons on the opportunities and challenges of implementing large-scale energy access projects.

Since its launch in June, CIF’s new Nature, People, and Climate Investment Program is initiating a selection process for identifying countries that will receive funding from this new facility. All eligible countries are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) by August 12, 2022. The new investment program will address the multiple drivers and impacts of climate change resulting from human activities on land resources and ecosystem services.

In June, a CIF team headed to Copenhagen, Denmark for the European Evaluation Society’s (EES) bi-annual meeting, an international forum that brings together practitioners and researchers working in evaluation. Sharing conceptual and operational experiences brings fresh ideas and new exchanges with colleagues and organizations in global evaluation practice.

A CIF delegation will attend NAP Expo 2022, an annual outreach event organized by the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) under the UNFCCC. The event brings together countries and various organizations to assess progress on National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

CIF at Devex World 2022
CIF Clean Energy Lead, Daniel Morris shared his expertise at the annual Devex World 2022 Conference held in Washington DC and virtually. As part of a panel discussion on “Financing the transition to net zero" he provided insights into how CIF finances climate initiatives that bring countries closer to net zero by 2050, and why social inclusion and just transition principles are at the heart of CIF investment plans.

G20 Energy Transition Working Group
CIF’s Accelerating Coal Transition Investment Program Lead, Abhishek Bhaskar, was invited by the Republic of Indonesia and their co-hosts, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), to add his expertise to a high level G20 workshop on Energy and Climate Financing. He offered his insights during a session on “Closing the climate finance gap” which was hosted from Jakarta via Webex.
