WCRP Strategic Plan
The development of the next WCRP Strategic Plan (for the period 2019-2029) is now underway. WCRP community consultation began in September and will soon extend to external partners. We thank all those who responded to the initial survey, which received around 50 responses and will be highly useful for the writing stages. The Strategic Plan's first draft will be made widely available for comment. You can keep informed on schedule and progress – as well as on the accompanying 2019-2024 implementation plan – on the WCRP website.

SPARC:
Stratosphere-troposphere Processes And their Role in Climate
SPARC, one of WCRP's four core projects, provides intellectual leadership to address key issues in atmospheric dynamics and predictability, chemistry and climate, and long-term records for climate understanding. SPARC contributes significantly to international assessments, providing cutting-edge knowledge of direct relevance to decision-makers. Find out all about SPARC in this edition of WCRP's core project spotlight.

Highlighting WCRP policy relevance:
the Antarctic Treaty and Arctic Council
WCRP regularly provides scientific input to high-level policy fora. Through the World Meteorological Organization, one of WCRP's sponsors, WCRP science is considered in two major policy processes for the polar regions: the Antarctic Treaty and the Arctic Council. Read a full highlight of WCRP input to the Antarctic Treaty and the Arctic Council here.

Global Carbon Budget published
The Global Carbon Budget 2017 has been published last month by the Global Carbon Project. It estimates that global CO2 emissions in 2017 will increase by 2%, after three years of almost no growth. Global atmospheric CO2 concentration, averaged over 2016, reached 402.8 ppm. The Project's researchers include several scientists from the WCRP community. See the WCRP news article here.
