Inhumane conditions are rampant inside the Federal Bureau of Prisons, harming thousands of families across the country. Hear the voices of people who are incarcerated inside a system designed to silence and dehumanize in our report with More Than Our Crimes.

Police should not be allowed to stop people of color just because they fled from an officer in a "high crime area." This ignores the experiences of people of color and the reality of police violence. We filed a joint amicus highlighting the reasonable fear of police and the understandable desire to avoid police interactions.

Dear Friend,

In a few short weeks, the United States Supreme Court will again begin to hear arguments. On their docket are critical cases addressing voting rights, diversity in higher education, the ability of states to protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination, and very likely many others. These cases come in the wake of the devastating and unprincipled decision to write the right to an abortion out of the Constitution and a decision imposing severe limitations on a state’s ability to regulate guns and fight gun violence. The Court previewed in these cases an agenda to actively pursue opportunities to limit the protections of the Constitution and the ability of state and local governments to ensure a just, fair, and equitable society.

This is a very troubling time for the nation and the legitimacy of our legal system. We cannot, however, give up in the face of the Supreme Court’s cynical attempt to roll back civil rights victories. It is essential that we continue to bring those cases that can and will make a difference in the lives of people facing discrimination and oppression.

As this newsletter demonstrates, essential to ensuring that justice is achieved is that those most affected by policies and practices of discrimination be heard and supported as they exercise their power. We are honored to join with our clients, with community organizers, and with activists to make this happen.
