It’s Time to Spring into Action!
2022 is Just Around the Corner.
Deanna Harrington, VRW President
|
|
|
|
Spring has sprung and so has the number of Texas Congressional seats! This is great news for Republicans in Texas, and it also raises the stakes for November 2022. While the Texas Legislature waits for the necessary Census numbers from the federal government, which in normal times would have been delivered a long time ago, we at Village Republican Women are getting ready for the election cycle of our times.
Our club has exceeded our membership enrollment goals, and more ladies are coming into our doors to get more involved in the political process. The growth of our membership is evidence that folks are concerned for the future of our country, and our new members realize that every single election is important. Since Village is a Texas PAC, we as a local organization tend to focus on Texas government races—from the school boards, city council races, County Judge, Texas Attorney General, the entire Texas House of Representatives, State Senate races, and all the way to the Governor’s Mansion.
Since redistricting has been postponed because of delays at the federal government level, this summer will be different. Traditionally this time would be spent preparing for primary races and such. Instead, this summer talk to your friends, families, and neighbors about America, Texas, and all of our freedoms and responsibilities. Early in my political career, I was told that politics is the art of conversation. The Republican Party is the party of freedom, rule of law, and prosperity. Ladies, let’s get talking! 2022 is HUGE, and Victory Requires Women.

"The Free Market Warrior"
Theresa Kosmoski, VP- Programs
|
|
|
You won’t want to miss our featured speaker in May, Loren Spivack, “The Free Market Warrior”. Mr. Spivack was born and raised in Massachusetts and spent most of his adult life in New York City. Before becoming active in politics, Spivack worked for several non-profits and as a management consultant for both profit and non-profit companies. Spivack founded “Free Market Warrior” in 2009 in an effort to make a positive difference in American politics and economics.
His “Free Market Warrior” store was expelled from Concord Mills Mall in North Carolina in July of 2009 for selling material critical of the Obama Administration. (Mall owners, Simon Property Group, are major Democratic donors.) Since then, Loren has devoted his time to teaching conservative groups about free-market economics. He conducts "Economic Literacy" seminars across the United States. So far, Spivack has delivered his famous seminar on “Economic Literacy” to over 200 groups in 20 states.
He will be giving his presentation called “The Stakes” wherein he craftily answers three important questions:
What is really going on with the American Left?
How can we fight it?
What are the long-term consequences if we don’t fight?
Spivack is also the author of four books, the most recent “To Think I Saw It On CNN Live" has been called "A scathing, behind-the-scenes satire that exposes the media's culpability in where we stand today".
Mr. Spivack is a fighter for conserative values. All of his effort go towards educating others, thus giving them the ammunition they need to go out and fight for those same values. His books are crafted a la Dr. Seuss, but definitely intended for adults, and will be available for sale after the presentation.

GRAND CELEBRATION OF 60 YEARS
Carolyn Hodges, 60th Anniversary Chairwomen
|
|
|
The 60th Anniversary held on Wednesday, April 28 at the Houston Racquet Club was an outstanding occasion and many of you as members supported it with your presence. Thank you for your participation in what I hope was an enjoyable day for you.
The 60th Anniversary Committee went above and beyond in putting together an event that had so many moving parts and it all seemed to go off without a hitch because of our committee members’ extraordinary commitment in achieving a day that honored our past presidents, our history, and our future. Just walking into the ballroom made you feel good seeing the lovely table décor, the silent auction area, and the slideshow presentation. The historical display got rave reviews as well, including the Secret Service Agent.
Every member of this committee deserves a round of applause.
Enjoy some of the photos from the event and a more detailed summary will be included in the next newsletter.
Carolyn Hodges
60th Anniversary Chairman

We The People
Anne Trousdale, Campaign Activities Chair
|
|
|
|
Village members worked 4279.25 hours in the first quarter of 2021!
What are campaign activities hours? They are any time you spend doing political activity type work. Anytime that advances the Republican philosophy and policies.
Here are some examples:
- Gathering signatures on petitions for candidates or issues include the time taken to have these notarized and submitted.
- Attending GOP meetings and events
- Training, preparation, travel to and from, time spent doing and the cleanup!
- Hours working as NFRW, TFRW or club board member.
- Time spent at club's monthly meeting does not count, but your time to get there does! Any time you spend working at the meeting IE working the sign in or membership table etc.
- Club officers and committee chairs/members may count time spent on required duties. You may count time on duties as an individual or in committee meetings held at a time OTHER than the club's Regular Business meeting. Due to nature of Club Board Meetings, those who attend Board meetings may count the travel to and from the meeting AND the time spent at the meeting.
- Pachyderm meetings, Concerned Women of America, any group supporting conservative ideals.
- Fun stuff counts. The rallies, dinners, fundraisers (Lincoln Reagan Dinner).
- When in doubt about “does it count?” ask yourself
- Will this help get a candidate elected?
- Am I informing voters about a candidate or issue?
- Is this helping to pass legislation?
- Is this supporting Republican philosophy?
Why do we Count?
“Because it's a tangible demonstration of the work our members do. It's great to translate hours to dollar's worth of campaign work that a candidate did not have to raise or spend.” Theresa Kosmoski, TFRW Past President

Voter Registration Drives
Mary Grace Landrum, Caring for Amera Chair
|
|
|
Jodie Dornak has been hard at work this month organizing Voter Registration Drives and encouraging members to become Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars. She has scheduled Voter Registration Drives at Treemont Retirement Community on May 31 and at The Forum on June 14. Thank you Jodie, Mary Grace Landrum, and Anne Trousdale who have volunteered to work a two–hour shift at these locations. Please contact Jodie if you can help from either 10-12 or 12-2. We need three more people for each location.
Eleanor and Jodie have also been distributing Voter Registration forms at Second Baptist Church on several Sundays in March and April.
Remember Electing Republican candidates start with registering voters. To become a VDVR go to https://voterregistration.harrisvotes.com. Scroll down to Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar to register for the online course. Then contact Jodie Dornak, jdornak@swbell.net, to let her know that you are available to help. She will pair newcomers with experienced VDVR’s at Voter Registration Drives. Thanks to those VRW members who are already VDVR’s:
Anne Trousdale

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE AND CALL TO ACTION
Joanie Bain, VRW Legislative Chair
|
|
|
|
Since my February Article, many bills have moved forward in the Legislature. Also, our SREC and HCRP have published lists of bills they are supporting. Over and over I am hearing from our Legislators that Democrats are showing up in large numbers to oppose these bills at committee hearings, while Republicans are few and far between. This article is dedicated to making it easier for you to voice your opinions and to beg you to do so. You can pick the bill you want to give testimony and submit by using the below link:
Here are some of HCRP’s list of supported bills and their status as of April 29th:
Of course, there are many more. For a complete list contact the Harris County Republican Party and ask for the list. Because Election Integrity is VRW’s legislative priority this legislative session, this list focuses mostly on election bills. The Tenth Amendment Bills are designed to protect Texas from House Bill one if it passes out of US Senate. (see last month’s article about this awful bill.).
As of April 28, Alan Vera HCRP Ballot Security Chair reported that House election bills reported out of committee have not been given a Calendar date. They must be put on the calendar to be voted on. Please Call Speaker Phelan & Calendar Committee members and ask them to get these important bills on the Calendar.
House Calendars – Chairman Dustin Burrows 512-463-0542 Dustin.Burrows@house.texas.gov
- Sent to Calendars
- HB 2546 Jetton Secretarty of State enforcement voter roll
- HB 4331 Jetton prohibit voter harvesting
- Call Speaker Phelan to ask that he assign these bills to Calendars Committee to be scheduled for a House floor vote ASAP!
- Reported Favorably
- HB 6 Cain Election Omnibus
- HB 2339 Klick Use lists of noncitizens to fix voter rolls
- HB 4044 Cain Registrar’s failure to cancel registration
- HB 3297 Allison Election Fraud
Let's support our legislators that we worked so hard to elect by voicing support for the bills they are trying to pass for us!

VRW Membership Continues to Grow, Thanks to You!
Laura Carlson, 2nd VP - Membership Chair
|
|
|
Did you know our club is a “Jumbo” club? To be a jumbo club, you need 101-200 members. We currently have 184 full members. Last December our club had 175 full members. We surpassed our total membership for 2020 in just the first 4 months of 2021!
We would love for you to help us grow our amazing club and give Republican Women a greater voice. Please reach out to friends and relatives and invite them to become members of Village Republican Women. If a new member joins by May 26th and references you on the membership form, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card. A couple of our new members, only wrote: “a friend” in the “How did you learn of Village Republican Women?” section. This means that you are not getting the credit for introducing them to us or the opportunity to win a gift card. So, please remind them to add your name.
Questions? Email Membership Chair Laura Carlson at membership@villagerepublicanwomen.org or call her at 281-222-5015.
