Let’s Keep Our Eye on the Prize — November Election 2022
Deanna Harrington, President
|
|
|
|
As we kick off the 2022 campaign season, we find ourselves very much in unchartered waters. The news out of Afghanistan is shocking and very scary. In all this chaos that surrounds us, both abroad and at home, I am reminded of our December speaker, WHAM CEO Mark Brown’s wise message to remember our national motto, “In God We Trust.” There’s a link to Mark’s talk in our January newsletter https://mailchi.mp/7fe9c6530705/january-2021-newsletter?e=%5BUNIQID%5D that is very much worth revisiting.
We, Republicans, tend to have spirited primaries, which I think is a good thing. True to our free-market principles, we value competition, including the competition of debate and ideas. We Republicans — and Americans in general—also tend to be loyal, kind, and tolerant. We’ll pick and choose our favorite candidates during this primary season, but let’s never forget if there was ever a year for Republicans to go into the 2022 general election unified and strong, this is it. If history repeats itself, Republicans should do very well in the 2022 midterm. Beyond strong election returns, it’s my firm belief that our party will be looked to for calm resolve and leadership to navigate the tempest from which we will emerge.
With all this in mind, I am very grateful that we Republicans have a deep and qualified bench of Republican candidates for 2022. I am very grateful to them for putting themselves out there for our sake. And I am extremely grateful to all of you for doing what you do to get Republicans elected. Let us all keep our eye on the 2022 prize. A lot is riding on our Republican victory.

September General Meeting Guest Catherine Engelbrecht
Founder and President, True the Vote
Catherine is a mother, business owner, native Texan, and lifelong practiti oner of common sense. What became a full-time call to grassroots activism started in 2008 when she could no longer watch silently as Government acted in stark contrast to America’s principles of personal liberty and economic freedom.
In 2009 she started True the Vote, a citizen-led effort to restore honor and integrity to our electoral system. True the Vote educates voters, trains and mobilizes citizens to work at the polls, researches the veracity of voter rolls, and advocates for election code reform. True the Vote is now the nation’s leading voters’ rights organization.
Catherine believes when the government isn't held accountable, it inevitably abuses the rights of American citizens. So, when she learned the Internal Revenue Service was targeting her organization and others, Catherine stood her ground and took action. In 2013, True the Vote embarked on a precedent-setting lawsuit against the IRS and its top leadership, leading to a historic victory in 2019.
As a nationally recognized spokesperson on voters’ rights and free speech, Catherine has appeared on television and talk radio, testified before Congress and state legislatures and spoken to grassroots activists across the nation.
Catherine has received national recognition for her work with True the Vote, including the CPAC Ronald Reagan Award, the Horowitz Foundation Annie Taylor Award, the Breitbart Stand With Award, along with dozens of state and local organizational commendations for leadership and strength under fire.
A graduate of the University of Houston, with a B.A. in Marketing, Catherine lives on her farm in Cat Spring, Texas with her two children, William and Elizabeth.

This year Village Republican Women again sponsored Woodview Elementary in Spring Branch ISD by providing funds for a dictionary for all 3rd graders. The district believes that students not only receive this tool to support life-long learning but benefit from a presentation about how and why dictionaries are such a valuable learning resource. For some students, this is the first book they can call their own. We can’t wait to see the excited faces when we present the dictionaries to the students! Contact Mary Grace Landrum if you would like to join in the presentation.
