President's Note

We Are Energized And Engaged!!

Deanna Harrington, President

Even in the dog days of summer, our VRW members are highly engaged—whether it be in politics, philanthropy, community, schools, and our families.  Heading into 2022, not only are our members getting more active, we seem to be seeing a great awakening among liberty-minded people across all walks of life.

As I write, Texas House Democrats are still hiding in plain sight in our national’s capitol. The division in this country that has now spread to our Texas House is unsustainable.  As a newly minted silent majority seems to be waking up to the inherent danger of this rift and the false narratives surrounding so many things, self-described non-political people are reaching out.  They are reaching out for people and organizations who share their love of freedom, rule of law, prosperity, and the individual.  Our membership numbers are up, as are other area Republican clubs.

Talk to your friends and neighbors about our Republican values and ask them to do their own research and seek truth.  Folks generally trust their friends and neighbors.  Be their go-to person.

A great place to look for current information is the Texas House Republican Caucus Facebook page and Twitter @TXGOPCaucus.  The Republican Caucus has been hosting press conferences about what the runaway Democrats are abandoning—Foster care reform, a 13th paycheck for our retired teachers, bail reform, and uniform Texas elections so that it’s easier to vote and harder to cheat.

Prior to the opening of the 87th session, VRW voted on election integrity as our number one legislative priority for our club.  The Texas House Democrats must come home, debate the merits of the election integrity bill, as well as other important issues that need to be resolved, and vote.  Let’s get ‘er done.  This is Texas, after all.

Ways & Means

Changing Course In Support Of Our 2022 Candidates

Julie Jaehne, 3rd VP Ways and Means

By now you have seen that we have re-branded the Boots & Bling event which is now the Candidate Round-Up 2022 Election Kick-Off Party. Our board wants to make this fun event as accessible to as many VRW members, guests, and CANDIDATES as possible, so we lowered the ticket price to cost.

As originally planned, the ticket price includes venue, set-up, security, a fully stocked fajita bar, two cash bars, and an AWESOME live band—fiddler and all—from San Antonio.  Here’s what changed—rather than making money on ticket sales, the board decided to make the ticket price “at-cost.”  Additionally, we will be allowing candidates who need their candidacy petitions signed to bring them, table space for their campaign literature/signs, as well as some very brief speaking time for non-federal candidates.

This is a new type of event for us and for VRW to pull this off in a way that is consistent with our accomplished VRW club’s reputation, this needs to be all hands on deck with great enthusiasm for our Candidate Round-up mission.  If any team in the world can pull this off, it’s Team Village.

Campaign Activities

Meet The Candidates, Get Involved

Ann Trousdale, Campaign Activities

The 2022 Campaign Kickoff Candidate Round-Up is a great
opportunity to come out and meet the candidates for the 2022 election cycle. Our Republican Candidates will need you to volunteer your time and resources to help them run successful campaigns, get to know the candidates, make a commitment to lend a hand on one of their campaigns while having an awesome time with your friends.

Americanism

Use Your Voice!

Mary Grace Landrum, Community Engagement and Americanism

One of our most sacred privileges, some would say a duty as an American, is to share our beliefs and requests with our elected officials.  Kudos to VRW members Michelle Heinz and  Cara Vann who spoke eloquently in the past month at Commissioner’s Court about the need to reform the dangerous felony bond practices in Harris County.  Cara shared the story of the murderous death of a young man and how our current justice system failed.

If you wish to speak on an agenda item posted for discussion at a governmental body’s open meeting, contact the administrator of the entity or visit their website. The protocol for each entity varies.  Below are numbers and websites for local bodies.
Help us elect Republican candidates by ensuring that eligible voters are registered.  Thank you, Jodie Dornak, for Coordinating a voter registration drive at the Abbey at Westheimer Plaza on August 17.  Sign up for the one-hour training to become a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar at https://voterregistration.harrisvotes.com and join our group of patriots!
