Presidents Note

Let Freedom Ring!

It’s Independence Day!

Victory Requires Women.

Deanna Harrington, President

We Americans love the summertime.  We love our hot Texas barbecues, bright blue pools, lemonade, red and white checkered tablecloths—basically all things America and all things Texas.  After this season of lockdowns and some would say government overreach, I’m guessing you—like me—are even more appreciative of our freedom and the American way of life.

As we rest and ponder over the summer, let’s think about our future and why we are members of Village Republican Women.  No doubt our common bonds are love of country, state, and community.  We also believe in the Rule of Law, the individual, capitalism, responsibility, and freedom.  Looking back, it is difficult to accept that our great American experiment is being challenged.

Village Republican Women exists to get Republicans elected at all levels of government, and our leadership team is hard at work planning a fantastic fall schedule for our club.  At this time last year, in the midst of nationwide urban riots and flaring Covid-19 numbers, we were boldly planning for our VRW Centennial Celebration of the Women’s Right to Vote.  Now we are getting ready for some boot-scootin' VRW fun at our September 18th “Boots and Bling Urban Fling” fundraiser, which will be followed by an outstanding line-up of fall general meeting programs.

Heading into the 2022 election cycle, Village Republican Women will be ready to meet the challenge and answer our calling.  The masks are off.  Remember what happened over the past year or so.  It is Independence Day, and victory requires women.

Legislative

Update on U.S. Senate Bill 1
"For the People Act"

Joanie Bain, Legislative

On June 22nd the Republican senators were able to prevent the Democrat's attempt to pass United States Senate Bill 1 – the broad sweeping election bill that passed in the U.S. House(House Bill 1) dubbed by the Democrats as  the  “For the People Act.” As you recall from our April Newsletter, this bill was designed to allow the federal government to take over elections and undermine the States’ attempts to strengthen voter integrity laws.  Ted Cruz and other Republicans in Congress refer to it as the “Corrupt Politicians Act.”

“All 50 Democrats voted for the procedural measure, but it drew no GOP support, leaving it short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a Republican filibuster,” The Wall Street Journal reported.
A new left-of-center poll released the results of a survey this week that showed that the overwh
elming majority of Americans — including 91% of Republicans, 87% of Independents, and 62% of Democrats — support requiring voter ID in elections.
