The next Veterans Advisory Board (VAB) meeting is Tuesday, March 12. VAB meetings are open to all community members including service members, veterans of any service era or discharge status, spouses, partners, family members, and supporters. No RSVP required.

CHiYB Bronx Resource Fair
DVS Engagement Coordinators Eileen Barcene and Amauri Espinal met with Bronx community members at the City Hall in Your Borough Resource Fair. The event, held at the Latino Pastoral Action Center in the Bronx, featured reps from agencies throughout the borough.

DVS's Public-Private Partnership Team hosted an employer roundtable for the just-announced Veterans Coordinated Approach to Recovery and Employment ( VetsCARE) -- a social impact bond project supporting veterans with service-connected PTSD.

DVS hosted a Welcome Meeting & Orientation for the newest members of the New York City Veterans Advisory Board. Chair Todd Haskins presented on the VAB's mandate and potential areas of collaboration with DVS.

Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey
The largest of its kind, Blue Star Families’ annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey is one of the most important resources for understanding the current state of the military community. The 2018 Survey featured 10,192 respondents including military spouses, service members, and veterans.

The United War Veterans Council commemorates Vietnam Veterans Day with multiple events in Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. Join them for a reading of the names of the fallen, tribute march, and a special wreath laying ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Plaza honoring Medal of Honor recipient Paul Bucha.

Queens College Veterans Resource Fair

Tuesday April 9 | 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Queens College is hosting a veterans resource fair featuring more than 40 representatives from private and non-profit organizations, as well as local, state, federal agencies. The all-day event will also feature free food, raffles, and guest speakers.

Judge Rules Male-Only Draft Violates Constitution

Requiring only men to register for the draft is unconstitutional, a federal judge has ruled. The Military Selective Service Act states that men in the U.S. ages 18 through 25 must register in case the country needs a military draft. Women face no such requirement. In February, a federal judge in Texas ruled that a males-only draft violates the equal protection provisions of the U.S. Constitution.
