Mitchel Lama Affordable Housing Lottery:
Veterans Get Preference

Aguilar Gardens, a Mitchell Lama Co-op, is opening its waitlist for two-bedroom apartments through its affordable housing lottery. Preference for Mitchell-Lama units is given to documented veterans selected in the lottery.
 
To apply, visit the Mitchell Lama connect website and create an account. The deadline to apply is February 17th.

Free Cybersecurity Training
Program for Veterans

iQ4 Corporation's Cybersecurity Workforce Alliance (CWA) is offering free virtual cybersecurity workforce development courses for veterans looking to identify career pathways and find employment in the field. The CWA courses have been designed by industry professionals to help veterans acquire cybersecurity skills through support from subject matter experts, mentors, and course resources. No prior experience in cybersecurity is necessary. Courses run 5 hours per week for 12-weeks. All course graduates will earn a CWA industry-recognized credential and certificate.

Please be prepared to upload the following documents to successfully register:

  • Driver’s license or state/ federal issued ID
  • Social security card
  • Proof of veteran’s preference, if applicable (e.g., DD-214)
  • Resume (while not required, it may assist in determining eligibility)

In addition, you will have lifelong learning access to the iQ4 Learning and Employment Record (LER), which can be added to your VetConnectPro profile.

VetConnectPro is an employment tool designed by the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) to help veterans find employment, professional mentorship, and resources to advance their careers. The website features a job board with listings from private and public employers looking to hire veterans. Veterans can start applying to open job opportunities by creating a profile and uploading their resumes.

Professional Mentorship Program:
Deadline to Apply is 2/8

The NYC Department of Veterans’ Services and NYC Service are looking for veterans interested in careers as public servants and NYC government employees to join the Service2Service (S2S) professional mentorship program.

Veterans participating in the S2S program will be paired with a City government employee who will serve as their professional mentor and connect them to their networks, offer career mapping, and serve as a guide to municipal government.

  • Veterans can apply to become a Service2Service mentee here.
  • NYC government employees can apply to become a Service2Service mentor here
All applications are due by Tuesday, February 8th.

NYC Speaks Survey:
Deadline to Complete the Survey is 2/11

Take the NYC Speaks 2022 survey to let NYC's new Mayor know how to approach the issues that matter to you. The deadline to fill out the survey is Friday, February 11th: nycspeaks.org.

COVID-19 Updates

Do your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this winter by getting vaccinated and boosted. Visit nyc.gov/vaccinefinder to find a vaccination site near you.

Get tested
  • Find a testing location near you
  • Every home in the U.S. can now order four free at-home COVID-19 tests. The only personal information you will need to provide to get the tests is your name and mailing address. You can also choose to track your order by providing an email address. Orders will ship in seven to 12 days and be delivered directly to your home. Learn more here.
  • Schedule an appointment at one of the Health Department's free Express testing locations, which usually return test results within a few hours. Learn more here.
Mask up: 
  • When you are indoors, wear a higher-grade mask or respirator, such as a KN95 or KF94, or a cloth mask over a disposable mask. If you do not have a higher-grade mask, it is still important to wear whatever mask you can. Learn more.

DVS represents NYC veterans in claims for benefits from the VA. During a time of economic crisis and high unemployment, we wanted to ensure that every veteran got the financial benefits they earned. To file a claim, fill out the VetConnectNYC.org form (select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service).

VetConnectPro: A New Employment Tool for NYC Veterans

This past Veterans Day, the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) officially launched VetConnectPro - a new employment tool designed to help veterans find employment, professional mentorship, and resources to advance their careers. Get started by creating or uploading your resume today: nyc.gov/vetconnectpro.

Mission: VetCheck

Mission: VetCheck volunteers make check-in calls to veterans across NYC. Through these calls, volunteers provide veterans with information regarding vital public services, including free meals, information on COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites, and mental health resources. Fighting Veteran Homelessness

Over the past five years, our housing team has moved over 1,000 veterans from shelters and into permanent housing. Learn more about DVS's efforts to end veteran homelessness in NYC here.

VetBizNYC: NYC's Veteran-Owned Business Map

The NYC Department of Veterans’ Services has launched VetBizNYC, an interactive map that identifies veteran-owned businesses across NYC. New Yorkers can use VetBizNYC to find veteran-owned businesses near them and support those who served!

The Veteran Voices Project (VVP) is an oral history initiative designed to preserve the stories of NYC's Veterans. For more information, visit nyc.gov/vetvoices.
