20th Anniversary Commemoration
of Post 9/11 Service

You are invited to join fellow members of the veteran community, City officials, foreign allies, uniformed service members, military families, and advocates at our upcoming 20th Anniversary Commemoration of Post-9/11 Service event! Join us as we pay tribute to the veterans of Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Global War on Terror (GWOT) on September 30th, 2021 at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Admission to this event is free!
Speakers will include Afghanistan, Iraq, and GWOT veterans who will share stories of service following the September 11th attacks. The event will conclude with a wreath laying procession.

Please Note:
The Intrepid Museum is adhering to NYC vaccine mandates. All guests 12 years of age and older must provide proof of at least one vaccination shot against COVID-19, as well as identification, before entering. Visitors will be required to wear masks within the museum complex. Vaccinated visitors will be permitted to remove their masks in outdoor spaces such as the pier and flight deck. The 20th Anniversary Commemoration of Post 9/11 Service event is a collaboration between the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) and the United War Veterans Council (UWVC).

Free Training Programs for Veterans

The Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) provides free online cybersecurity training to veterans. Apply here.

NPower's virtual Tech Fundamentals program is a free workshop that teaches veterans, reservists, and military spouses IT basics. The curriculum for this program includes an IT Support Certificate courtesy of Google. Courses are offered in both a 16-week and 23-week schedule.

- BreakLine provides education and coaching for veterans interested in pursuing careers in the tech industry. Participants attend 4 to 6 hours of programming a week alongside a cohort of peers. Sessions include hands-on workshops, in-depth discussions with industry leaders, and an inside look at top tech companies.

- NYU Tandon's annual Veterans Future Lab Summit is a free, virtual event that gathers pioneering entrepreneurs, top-tier investors, industry leaders, and innovative supporters to help veteran entrepreneurs build strong, sustainable ventures. The event features hands-on workshops, success strategies, early access to research and more. The event runs from September 28th to 29th. Register here.
- Applications are open for PenFed Foundation's Ignition Challenge. The competition allows veterans of color with a new business or business idea to compete for funding and mentorship. Deadline to apply is September 1st. Apply here!

- 96.9% of NYC COVID hospitalizations are unvaccinated people, while only 0.33% of fully vaccinated New Yorkers have been diagnosed with COVID. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your community. Learn how to get vaccinated at nyc.gov/vaccinefinder (more details below).
- The first day of school is September 13th. If your child is 12 or older, make sure they get their COVID-19 vaccine before the school year begins. Regardless of their age, make sure your child is up to date on routine vaccinations. If you need a health care provider, call 311.
- All New York City public school teachers and other staffers are now required to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
- The Key to NYC vaccine mandate began earlier this month. People 12 and older are required to show proof they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to enter indoor dining, indoor fitness, and indoor entertainment venues. Learn more.

Walk-ins Welcome:
All New Yorkers can now get their COVID-19 vaccine by simply walking into any of the CIty's 11 public hospital locations! To find a walk-up vaccination site near you, click here.
Get Vaccinated at Home:
All New Yorkers can request an in-home vaccination with the COVID-19 vaccine. Fill out this form to get started or call 877-VAX-4NYC (877-829-4692).

Get the Benefits You Deserve

DVS represents NYC veterans in claims for benefits from the VA. During a time of economic crisis and high unemployment, we wanted to ensure that every veteran got the financial benefits they earned. To file a claim, fill out the form at VetConnectNYC.org (select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service).

DVS partnered with GetFoodNYC to help deliver food to homebound veterans. We're also working to distribute HelloFresh meals to veteran families. Request food or learn how to volunteer to prepare meal kits by submitting your information to VetConnectNYC.

Ending Veteran Homelessness
