COVID-19 Vaccine Updates

New York State's Vaccine Distribution Plan

The FDA is expected to authorize the Pfizer vaccine soon. According to Governor Cuomo, New York could receive 170,000 doses of the vaccine this weekend. New York City will receive an estimated 72,000 doses.

According to New York's vaccination program, high-risk healthcare workers, nursing home residents, and nursing home staff will receive the vaccine first, followed by other health care workers.

If authorized by the FDA, CVS and Walgreens employees can begin vaccinating nursing home residents and staff on December 21st, as part of the federal government's nursing home vaccination program'High risk' hospital workers eligible to receive a vaccination from the state's initial allotment include emergency room workers, ICU staff, and pulmonary department staff. Members of the New York Army and Air National Guard who serve as part of the state's COVID response efforts will also be eligible to receive the vaccine early.

Essential workers and the general population will receive the vaccine after these groups; those with the highest risk will be prioritized.

Update on NYC's Vaccine Preparedness & Equity Plan

NYC is expected to receive 465,000 doses of the vaccine by the beginning of January. In accordance with New York State guidelines, nursing homes and 'high risk' healthcare workers will receive the vaccine first.

NYC will also prioritize vaccination for communities of color in the 27 neighborhoods that have been disproportionately hard hit by the virus. The City unveiled an Equity Plan to ensure New Yorkers that the vaccine will be distributed fairly and equitably to all communities through:

  • trusted grassroots community leaders
  • neighborhood and NYCHA vaccination sites
  • strict privacy rules to protect immigrant New Yorkers

Feeding Veterans in Need

One of the largest concerns facing New Yorkers during the pandemic is food insecurity.

To address this need, DVS partnered with
GetFoodNYC to deliver meals to homebound veterans.

DVS is also working with the NYS Division of Veteran Services and the Campaign Against Hunger, to distribute 350 to 400 HelloFresh food kits to veteran households per week.

Request food.
