DVS Wants to Help You File Your VA Claim

DVS’s VA Claims Unit is processing Veterans Affairs (VA) claims for NYC veterans and their families. Our team provides quality service, advocacy, guidance, and assistance on the claims review process. The VA Claims Unit works diligently to help prepare and package a VA claim that is substantial, valid, and clearly identifies the pertinent information relevant to the claim.

DVS's VA Claims Unit is trained to process the following claims:

To schedule an online appointment with our VA Claims Unit, fill out the form at VetConnectNYC and select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service. You can also email us at connect@veterans.nyc.gov or call us at (212) 416-5250.

Before meeting with us, please have the following items readily available (if you do not have any or all of materials listed below, DVS can still represent you in a claim for VA benefits but the process will be faster if you can gather these materials):

  • DD214
  • birth certificate
  • social security card
  • marriage certificate (if available)
  • decision letter (if prior claim submitted)
  • VA award letter (if available)
  • VA medical evidence that supports claim
  • private doctor medical evidence that supports claim

On Saturday, April 23rd, the New York State Division of Veterans' Services (NYS DVS) will host a virtual tour of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for military families.

Cradle of Aviation Museum 

On Sunday, April 24th, at 12:00 pm, NYS DVS will host a guided virtual journey through the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Behold aviation history, from hot-air balloons to airplanes to spacecraft, including one of NASA’s Lunar Modules!

Emergency Grant for Veteran Caregivers

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation and the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation will provide veteran caregivers with emergency relief grants that can be used to cover medical bills, transportation, loss of income, and more. FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance

Those who incurred COVID-19 funeral expenses after January 20, 2020 may be eligible for a one-time reimbursement assistance of up to $9,000 from FEMA. For more information, call 844-684-6333 or click here

Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

Attention veteran service organizations and community based organizations:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)'s Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon
Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP)
 will fund suicide prevention efforts for veterans and their families.

The VA will host a webinar on Friday, April 29th, at 2:00 pm, to provide information on SSG Fox SPGP, as well as information about eligibility, the application process, scoring criteria, and additional information for applicants. Register here.

Get the Benefits You Deserve

DVS represents NYC veterans in claims for benefits from the VA. During a time of economic crisis and high unemployment, we wanted to ensure that every veteran got the financial benefits they earned. To file a claim, fill out the VetConnectNYC.org form (select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service).

VetConnectPro: A New Employment Tool for NYC Veterans

This past Veterans Day, the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) officially launched VetConnectPro - a new employment tool designed to help veterans find employment, professional mentorship, and resources to advance their careers. Get started by creating or uploading your resume today: nyc.gov/vetconnectpro.

Mission: VetCheck

Mission: VetCheck volunteers make check-in calls to veterans across NYC. Through these calls, volunteers provide veterans with information regarding vital public services, including free meals, information on COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites, and mental health resources. Fighting Veteran Homelessness

Over the past five years, our housing team has moved over 1,000 veterans from shelters and into permanent housing. Learn more about DVS's efforts to end veteran homelessness in NYC here.

VetBizNYC: NYC's Veteran-Owned Business Map

The NYC Department of Veterans’ Services has launched VetBizNYC, an interactive map that identifies veteran-owned businesses across NYC. New Yorkers can use VetBizNYC to find veteran-owned businesses near them and support those who served!
