Month of the Military Child

April is Month of the Military Child! Thank you to NYC's military children. Never forget that the support they provide to their families is a form of service!

Families of veterans and service members can connect to services by filling out the form at VetConnectNYC and selecting "Individual and Family Support" as their preferred service.

Virtual Events for Military Families

To celebrate the Month of the Military Child, the New York State Division of Veterans' Services will host a series of free virtual activities for military families! Activities begin this Sunday, April 3rd! Learn more here.

Corning Museum of Glass

Enjoy a virtual tour of the Corning Museum of Glass and learn about glass’s fascinating uses in science and art. Families will also witness a dramatic “hot glass” artistic glassblowing demonstration! 

Saturday, April 9th | 2:00 pm
The Wild Center 

Join a virtual tour of the Wild Center and meet the owls that call the museum home! Families will also have the opportunity to take a virtual walk with a Wild Center naturalist to meet and learn more about these fascinating animals.

Sunday, April 10th | 2:00 pm
Utica Zoo

Enjoy an afternoon online at the Utica Zoo and meet three of the zoo’s “animal ambassadors!”

Saratoga Automobile Museum

Discover New York’s automotive heritage at the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Take your family on a guided virtual tour that will encompass everything from an impressive antique car collection to the ever-popular New York Auto Racing Hall of Fame.

National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum 

Experience a virtual tour of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and enjoy the famous shrine to America’s Pastime!

Take your family on a guided virtual journey of the Cradle of Aviation Museum and behold aviation history, from hot-air balloons to airplanes to spacecraft — including one of NASA’s Lunar Modules!

Enjoy a virtual tour of the New York State Museum and travel two million years back in time. Witness the museum’s Ice Ages exhibit, ending with the world-famous Cohoes Mastodon!

Veterans Business Leadership Association
Roundtable and Networking Event

Veteran business owners are invited to join DVS for a roundtable and networking event to celebrate the launch of the Veteran Business Leadership Association (VBLA), a specialized program that offers monthly educational workshops, networking opportunities, and one-on-one support to help veterans grow their businesses. The VBLA roundtable will take place on Monday, April 11th, at Brooklyn Borough Hall at 3pm. Veteran business owners who attend will have the opportunity to learn more about the initiative, network with peers, and meet stakeholders. Register here.

Wednesday, April 13th
NYC Virtual Veterans Advisory Board Meeting

NYC will host a virtual Veterans Advisory Board Meeting on Wednesday, April 13, at 6pm. Veterans, families, and supporters are encouraged to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to voice their opinions, share their concerns, and ask questions. Join via Zoom.

Get the Benefits You Deserve

DVS represents NYC veterans in claims for benefits from the VA. During a time of economic crisis and high unemployment, we wanted to ensure that every veteran got the financial benefits they earned. To file a claim, fill out the VetConnectNYC.org form (select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service).

VetConnectPro: A New Employment Tool for NYC Veterans

This past Veterans Day, the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) officially launched VetConnectPro - a new employment tool designed to help veterans find employment, professional mentorship, and resources to advance their careers. Get started by creating or uploading your resume today: nyc.gov/vetconnectpro.

Mission: VetCheck

Mission: VetCheck volunteers make check-in calls to veterans across NYC. Through these calls, volunteers provide veterans with information regarding vital public services, including free meals, information on COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites, and mental health resources. Fighting Veteran Homelessness

Over the past five years, our housing team has moved over 1,000 veterans from shelters and into permanent housing. Learn more about DVS's efforts to end veteran homelessness in NYC here.

VetBizNYC: NYC's Veteran-Owned Business Map

The NYC Department of Veterans’ Services has launched VetBizNYC, an interactive map that identifies veteran-owned businesses across NYC. New Yorkers can use VetBizNYC to find veteran-owned businesses near them and support those who served!

Veterans Voices Project

The Veteran Voices Project (VVP) is an oral history initiative designed to preserve the stories of NYC's Veterans. For more information, visit nyc.gov/vetvoices.
