Connecting Veterans to Food Services

The NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) serves veterans facing food insecurity by connecting them to local food services and assistance programs in their community.
Connect to food assistance services by filling out the VetConnectNYC form and selecting "Food Assistance" as your preferred service. Find resources at nyc.gov/vetfood, including emergency food assistance, benefits assistance, delivery services, a list of food banks, and more.

DVS Returns to the Queens Borough Hall
|
|
|
This week, DVS announced the return of Veteran Resource Center office hours to the Queens Borough Hall in partnership with Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards.
The Queens Veteran Resource Center satellite office is now open Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays) from 10:00 am and 4:00 pm and will be staffed by a DVS employee who will assist veterans with signing up for benefits and other resources. Veterans seeking support may visit the resource center in Room 222 on the second floor of Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens. Learn more here.

Events for Military Children

The New York State Division of Veterans' Services will end the Month of the Military Child with a trip through time! Military families are invited to join a virtual tour of the New York State Museum tomorrow, Saturday, April 29th, at 2:00 pm. See the museum’s Ice Ages exhibit and the famous Cohoes Mastodon! Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

Attention veteran service organizations and community based organizations:
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced the opportunity of funds for suicide prevention services grants under the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon
Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP).
The SSG Fox SPG is a 3-year community-based grant program that will provide financial assistance to eligible organizations to provide or coordinate suicide prevention services for eligible veterans and their families. Please note: local government entities can apply for the grant as well.
Organizations may apply for grants worth up to $750,000 as well as apply to renew awards from year to year throughout the length of the three-year community-based grant program.

DVS represents NYC veterans in claims for benefits from the VA. During a time of economic crisis and high unemployment, we wanted to ensure that every veteran got the financial benefits they earned. To file a claim, fill out the VetConnectNYC.org form (select "Benefits Navigation" as your preferred service).

VetConnectPro: A New Employment Tool for NYC Veterans

This past Veterans Day, the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) officially launched VetConnectPro - a new employment tool designed to help veterans find employment, professional mentorship, and resources to advance their careers. Get started by creating or uploading your resume today: nyc.gov/vetconnectpro.

Mission: VetCheck volunteers make check-in calls to veterans across NYC. Through these calls, volunteers provide veterans with information regarding vital public services, including free meals, information on COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites, and mental health resources.
