Renters Insurance Survey
Are you a renter or a landlord? Take this five-minute survey about renters insurance! By sharing your experience, you’re helping us understand why New Yorkers might or might not have a policy, which can lead to better support after disasters.
Renters insurance provides financial protection for tenants’ property in case of a disaster, and can pay for relocation. For example, in case of a small fire, renters insurance could pay to replace damaged belongings and for a hotel until the unit was repaired.
NYC Emergency Management wants to understand your thoughts on renters insurance, and what factors encourage or discourage you from signing up for renters insurance.

The Department of Veterans Affairs caregiver program, the beleaguered electronic health records program, veteran homelessness support and more would see changes under a bipartisan, bicameral agreement unveiled Tuesday to advance a slew of legislative efforts that had been stalled.
The Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act combines several bills that have been introduced this Congress seeking to bolster services for veterans and their families. The agreement -- which was negotiated by House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost, R-Ill.; Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jon Tester, D-Mont.; and Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas, the top Republican on the Senate committee -- is expected to move through Congress this summer.
"Over the past year and a half, we have listened to veterans and stakeholders to find the gaps within VA's services and consider common sense legislation to improve them where we can," Bost said in a statement. "This bill would expand economic opportunities for veterans, give veterans more choice in where they choose to live out their sunset years or receive health care, improve mental health support for veteran caregivers, hold VA accountable to the taxpayers and veterans they serve, and so much more."[READ MORE...]

A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
New York City isn’t just coming back – we are back. Not only have we set the all-time record for the most total jobs in New York City history, cut Black unemployment by 26% since the start of our administration, and launched our JobsNYC initiative to connect New Yorkers with good-paying jobs through hiring halls and our online portal. But this week, we launched a generational effort to reimagine the 120+-acre Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Red Hook as a vibrant community with a modern maritime port, public amenities, and open space. It stands to create thousands of jobs and author the next great chapter in the history of New York City’s economy. Here at DVS, our Big Apple TAP Initiative helps ensure transitioning service members are well-positioned to enter the civilian workforce, whether they need help translating their military skills or are looking to start their own business.

Perelman Performing Arts Center:
An American Soldier
Beginning May 12 at Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC), An American Soldier tells the powerful true story of Army Pvt. Danny Chen. To help bring accuracy in the opera's storytelling, the production brought on military consultants including Army veteran Gordon Penn. After he was honorably discharged from active duty in 2012, Gordon Penn attended Fordham University to study painting and writing. Later, while studying to be a playwright at Columbia University he met An American Soldier writer David Henry Hwang. Penn has used his military experience to craft his own plays as well as to provide his expertise to theatrical productions. More information about An American Soldier at link.pacnyc.org/veterans
