Watch out for common scams and fraud affecting Veterans | The BLUF
The VA has learned that its National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD) logo is being used in an apparent scam to fraudulently solicit donations for a fictitious research study in the United Arab Emirates. Specifically, the fraudsters have duplicated the NCPTSD website www.ptsd.va.gov (official site) altering executive leadership names and photos. The fraudsters have also duplicated www.edition.cnn.com (official site) and republished it with fabricated content about the fabricated study. NCPTSD has no involvement with any research in the UAE, nor does VA solicit funds from Veterans for studies.

The VA is working with the Office of the Inspector General to get authorities to rectify the situation: removing the website and contacting/assisting any affected Veterans.

VA aims to emphasize free burials benefits for veterans at national cemeteries

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs is nearing its goal to provide 95% of veterans with burial options at national and grant-funded veterans cemeteries within a two-hour drive of their homes.

Yet less than a quarter of veterans and their families take advantage of the free burials, headstones and other services offered at the 158 national veterans cemeteries the VA operates, said Matthew Quinn, the VA’s undersecretary for memorial affairs.

“Increasing awareness is a top priority,” Quinn said at a recent Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs hearing to discuss efforts by the VA’s National Cemetery Administration to inform veterans and their families of the under-used memorial benefits. [READ MORE...]
