Veteran Community Changemaker Series
Nancy Preston is a U.S. Army Veteran and entrepreneur who founded and runs Milk Money Kitchens. Nancy originally enlisted out of Texas and soon commissioned after being accepted to West Point Prep. She served multiple combat deployments, and decided on her last deployment in Iraq to leave and create opportunity for her community.

Milk Money Kitchens began in 2015 with the idea to provide a facility and business services to food startups in New York City. Since then, she has helped and even saved multiple businesses, as well as partnered with numerous other Veteran-run organizations to keep Veterans employed while producing healthy food for the community.

Thank you Nancy for all of your effort to help Veterans thrive in NYC!

Biden admin expands IVF access to unmarried veterans and those in same-sex couples

By April Rubin
Axios | March 11, 2024 - Health

The Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding in vitro fertilization benefits regardless of marital status and will allow the use of donor eggs, sperm and embryos for the first time.

Why it matters: Veterans who are unmarried or in same-sex marriages will be able to access broader reproductive care, at a time when it faces post-Roe legal challenges in several states.

  • The ability to use donors is "a critical step toward helping Veterans who are not able to produce their own sperm or eggs due to service-connected injuries and health conditions," the department said in a statement Monday. [READ MORE...]

 A Message From Mayor Adams:

Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.

New York City isn’t just coming back – we are back. Last week, our city hit another all-time record-high job total, while simultaneously launching a state-of-the-art incubator to help health and beauty businesses owned by BIPOC, women, and other individuals launch and grow their businesses. But to keep our economy growing, we have to look to the future. That is why our administration is working to deliver long-overdue zoning changes and help businesses grow with our “City of Yes for Economic Opportunity” proposal. We are thrilled that last week the City Planning Commission approved this plan, and we will continue to fight to get it passed. Here at DVS, we are working with NYC Department of Small Business to connect Veteran Business Owners promote to a wide variety of free and high-quality services to help start, operate, and grow a small business in New York City.
