Recognizing POW-MIA Vietnam Veterans

On Friday, Sept. 19, 2025—National POW/MIA Recognition Day—the City of New York will honor 36 U.S. service members who remain missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. Fifty years after the fall of Saigon, we honor these sentinels and stand with the families who still wait.

After years on the battlefield, Adrian Kochanowicz has a new fight: getting veterans in college to bond together.
“When we hold events for vets, it’s usually hard to get people to come in,” Adrian Kochanowicz, the assistant director for the office of veterans services at the Lincoln Center campus, said. “Maybe it’s not for a particular individual; maybe there’s no interest. Maybe there’s no will to go, which happens, too.”
He’s a veteran himself, having served in the Marine Corps, and remembers the struggles of going back to school.

- The league plays on the CityPickle courts at Wollman Rink
- The three courts are reserved every other Friday during the summer
- Three schools partnered to get a $20,000 grant from New York City to establish the league, reserve the courts and have a coach on hand

Every day, our administration is working to make our city more affordable and livable for working-class families — removing more than 15 million pounds of litter and debris off our streets, bringing rat complaints citywide down for 8 months in a row, and making affordable NYC Bins available to over 800,000 New Yorkers. With Mayor Adams’ “Trash Revolution” and “War on Rats,” we are making sure everyone can use our streets and sidewalks free from litter and especially from rats.

Each film chosen reflects the heart and vision of our Veteran community, and we're proud to share them with you!
In total, we settled on 12 Official Selections and 6 Honorable Mentions that embody the excellence, artistry, and humanity our showcase looks to empower. Additionally, our filmmakers range from civilians to Purple Heart awarded Army Rangers—what a spread!!!
