May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Cultural Competency Gaps: Only 2.3% of private healthcare providers in NYC are equipped to deliver culturally competent care for veterans. VA and specialized centers are critical for addressing unique mental health needs.

We are here to help! If you are interested in being connected to mental health services, visit nyc.gov/vetconnect and fill out the "VetConnectNYC Request Form" to connect directly with a member of our team.

Former US Rep. Charles Rangel, who spent nearly 50 years representing New York, has died

NEW YORK (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, an outspoken, gravel-voiced Harlem Democrat who spent nearly five decades on Capitol Hill and was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, died Monday at age 94.

His family confirmed the death in a statement provided by City College of New York spokesperson Michelle Stent. He died at a hospital in New York, Stent said.

A veteran of the Korean War, he defeated legendary Harlem politician Adam Clayton Powell in 1970 to start his congressional career. A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create a more affordable city, and that's why we're investing a total of more than $400 million as part of our “Best Budget Ever” to fully fund our plan to transform Fifth Avenue into a world-class, pedestrian-centered boulevard. The redesign will not only make the street more walkable, greener, and safer, but will cement this iconic corridor's status as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation in New York City—building on our city’s all-time high jobs record hit 11 times under our administration. And here at DVS, our team is growing to enhance service delivery in housing, benefits and outreach—making it easier for veterans and their families to access the support the have earned and deserve to build a more affordable city for working-class New Yorkers.
