Memorial Weekend Flag Planting

On May 24th, for Memorial Day weekend, we'll be honoring our Veterans by planting flags at their graves. There are over 27,000 Veterans buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery and we will be sure to honor every last one, so no hero is left behind.

📅  May 24th (rain or shine)
⏰ 9am Start
📍 Cypress Hills National Cemetery
625 Jamaica Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11208

Things to Consider:

  • Wear comfortable clothing and dress accordingly for the weather.
  • We suggest you wear gloves as the flags are on wooden poles and can give you splinters as you insert the flags into the ground.
  • Feel free to bring little carts or backpacks to carry as many flag bundles as possible.
  • Bring water/hydration.
For questions or concerns, please reach out to Carlos Varon via email at: lcvaron@gmail.com or by phone at: 718-374-1926.

By Chris Lewis
May 14, 2025

By transforming military experience into cutting-edge drone expertise, Vets to Drones is looking to equip Veterans with the tools to thrive in a dynamic and emerging tech sector.

A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create proactive, forward-thinking initiatives that support the men and women who keep our city running. That's why, last week, we announced that we're helping more than 100,000 city employees reduce or cancel almost $360 million in student loan debt through partnership with student loan benefits company Summer. Too many hard working individuals suffer the weight of student loan debt, and we are going to ensure that the working-class New Yorkers who run this city can get more of their hard-earned money back in their pockets. And here at DVS, our Military Family Advocate (MFA) Program--a collaborative initiative between NYC Public Schools and our agency--was created to enhance engagement with Veterans and military families. The program aims to be the first point of contact, connecting them to vital services that they may not know exist. Visit nyc.gov/vetmfa to learn more.
