A passenger jet and a U.S. Army helicopter collided in midair on Wednesday night and crashed into the Potomac River near Washington, killing 67 people and leaving no survivors.

Search teams, including divers, recovered bodies from the frigid Potomac River on Thursday.

American Eagle Flight 5342, operated by PSA Airlines for its parent carrier, American Airlines, had taken off from Wichita, Kan., carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. The collision occurred in clear skies as the plane approached Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

The helicopter, a UH-60 Black Hawk with a three-person crew, had been on a military training flight, the Army said. The helicopter was supposed to be flying in a different location and at a lower altitude, according to four people briefed on the matter but not authorized to speak publicly.

Among the victims were figure skaters from the United States and Russia who had attended the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita.

Here is what to know about the crash. [READ MORE...]

A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create a more affordable city, and that means launching initiatives aimed to deliver more jobs for New Yorkers. For the eighth time in our administration, we’ve set a record with over 4.7 million jobs — the highest in our city’s history. This resurgence in a record level of jobs is thanks to Small Business Services and others creating the environment to bring more businesses and jobs to our city, HPD and City Planning helping create more homes to make our city more affordable, NYPD and other public safety agencies working to make our streets safer so people, companies, and jobs want to come back to NYC. We are focused on putting more New Yorkers to work and ensuring NYC is more affordable and the best place to raise a family. At DVS, we collaborate with SBS and a network of public and private partners to equip veteran entrepreneurs with the tools, resources and connections they need to run and grow their veteran business in New York City.
