On Thursday, October 25, over 400 guests honored Congresswoman Niki Tsongas and Dr. Gary P. Kearney for their exemplary leadership and outstanding public service at the USS Constitution Museum Gala - A Salute to Service Gala.
Congresswoman Tsongas, who became the first woman in 25 years to serve Massachusetts in Congress, received the Charles Francis Adams Award, named for one of the Museum’s founders and given to a person who has contributed extensively to the betterment of the community. As an advocate for military servicemembers and veterans, a dedicated partner of national parks, and an ardent supporter of local innovation, Congresswoman Tsongas embodies the same ideals USS Constitution represents—dedication to community, commitment to purpose, and excellence in all endeavors.

Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship and Sacrifice
Thursday, November 29
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
USS Constitution Museum
Join New York Times bestselling author Adam Makos as he tells the inspirational story of the U.S. Navy’s most famous aviator duo, Lieutenant Tom Hudner and Ensign Jesse Brown, and the Marines they fought to defend. A white New Englander from the country-club scene, Tom passed up Harvard to fly fighters for his country. An African American sharecropper’s son from Mississippi, Jesse became the navy’s first black carrier pilot, defending a nation that wouldn’t even serve him in a bar. During his talk, Mr. Makos will read an excerpt of his book. A reception and book signing will follow the presentation.
Hailed as "a masterful storyteller" by the Associated Press, Adam Makos is the author of the New York Times bestseller A Higher Call, and the critically-acclaimed Devotion. Inspired by his grandfathers' service, Adam chronicles the stories of American veterans in his trademark fusion of intense human drama and fast-paced military action, securing his place "in the top ranks of military writers," according to the Los Angeles Times. In the course of his research, Adam has flown a WWII bomber, accompanied a Special Forces raid in Iraq, and journeyed into North Korea in search of an MIA American airman.
The lecture and reception are co-hosted by the USS Thomas Hudner Commissioning Committee and the USS Constitution Museum. It is an official event of the commissioning festivities for the USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116).

We are proud to offer you the opportunity to own a piece of American history with this limited edition medallion! This medallion is made from copper sheathing that once clad USS Constitution, America's Ship of State, which defended the ideals and values of a free and independent nation. Inspired by our collection, it is illustrated with images celebrating the earliest years of USS Constitution’s history.
On the front is a rendering of USS Constitution based on a circa 1803 painting by Michele Felice Cornè. Painted approximately six years after the Constitution’s launch in 1797, it is the earliest known artistic depiction of the Ship that is still in existence.
On the back of the medallion is an artist concept rendering of USS Constitution’s original figurehead, a large full-length statue of the Roman hero, Hercules. The epitome of strength, Hercules holds the document for which Constitution is named.
