With over 221 years of service, USS Constitution has a fascinating and far-reaching history. Her crew is learning how to share that history with the public through a twelve-week training course led by Museum staff and in collaboration with the Naval History & Heritage Command Detachment Boston. This program is designed to introduce sailors to the Museum's resources and equip them with the tools to interpret different parts of the Ship and her legacy.
In today's topic, "The World of Command," the crew learned about officers' duties, living spaces, and the hierarchy of command on board the Ship. The crew got a first-hand look at officers' lives by examining a variety of objects and works from the Museum's displays and collections.
Throughout March, crew members will continue to explore the museum, USS Constitution, and her exciting history. Weekly sessions, lead by Museum staff and the Historian, will include everything from interpreting different areas of the vessel to building tours to discussing the role of USS Constitution as a symbol.

We are proud to offer you the opportunity to own a piece of American history with this limited edition medallion! This medallion is made from copper sheathing that once clad USS Constitution, America's Ship of State, which defended the ideals and values of a free and independent nation. Inspired by our collection, it is illustrated with images celebrating the earliest years of USS Constitution’s history.

On the front is a rendering of USS Constitution based on a circa 1803 painting by Michele Felice Cornè. Painted approximately six years after the Constitution’s launch in 1797, it is the earliest known artistic depiction of the Ship that is still in existence.
On the back of the medallion is an artist concept rendering of USS Constitution’s original figurehead, a large full-length statue of the Roman hero, Hercules. The epitome of strength, Hercules holds the document for which Constitution is named.
