Becoming "Old Ironsides"

This week, we celebrate the anniversary of USS Constitution's battle with HMS Guerriere.  On August 19, 1812, USS Constitution met and defeated the British frigate. In this decisive victory, Constitution became a household name and the nickname, "Old Ironsides," was born.

In this week's Historian at Home video, Carl discusses the details and importance of the Guerriere battle. Continue the learning on our website or plan a visit the Museum to see objects related to the Guerriere battle in person! Purchase timed tickets in advance and find all details about visiting the Museum on our website.
