Dear colleagues,

As per our previous communication, you may have learned that UN2020 is leading an effort to draft a UN75 People's" Declaration and Program of Action intended to capture the civil society vision for UN75 and beyond and propose a plan of action to reach this vision. With this in mind, we invite you to provide your perspective and feedback. A discussion of the first draft of the declaration takes place this Thursday, March 26th, at 9:30am EDT (New York) (https://zoom.us/j/613187069)

In advance of our call please find below information on (1) the draft of UN75 "People's" Declaration, (2) the draft abbreviated declaration, (3) timeline of the drafting process, and (4) upcoming UN2020 Global Call.

Please feel free to share this email with your own networks and encourage them to join the call. Zoom link is provided below.

1. Draft of UN75 "People's" Declaration

  • The "pre-Rev 1" Declaration and Program of Action is here. This is the version which we will be consulting upon Thursday 26 March and will serve as the basis for the "Revision 1" that will be created and distributed on Monday 30 March.
  • Please note that the declaration is split into two parts: a declaration and a program of action. These two are mutually reinforcing - the declaration (paras 1-10 and 15) is the perspective and aspiration while the program of action (paras 11-14) are the substantive asks and proposals.
  • Additionally, four distinct annexes can be found at the end of this Declaration and Program of action. We are not sure yet how and whether to use them, but they at the very least serve as an abbreviated compendium of content that has informed the aforementioned documents.

2. Draft of the Abbreviated Declaration

  • The draft abbreviated declaration is here. It is meant as an advocacy tool to influence the current General Assembly negotiations of the UN75 political declaration that is to be adopted by Member States September 21.

3. Timeline of the drafting process

  • You can check the timeline here.
  • We hope to have the abbreviated declaration complete ASAP - the middle of next week.
  • The next version of the declaration will be translated and widely distributed beginning on Monday, 30 March (open consultation on this draft declaration will close early morning 21 April).
  • A core drafting team will then incorporate feedback received and have another version by 27 April. The final Declaration and Program of Action will be adopted at the UN75 People's Forum to be scheduled online in mid-May.

4. Upcoming UN2020 Global Call

  • Please mark your calendar and join us in the next UN2020 Monthly Global Call to receive updates on the campaign. The call is scheduled for Tuesday, 31 March, 9:30am-11:30am EDT (New York) for 2 hours. Zoom link here: https://zoom.us/j/436337946. Please find the program for this call here.
