Dear <<First Name>>,

I was employee no. 2 of The Correspondent before it launched, fresh from a degree in political communication and straight into an unbreaking newsroom. Speaking six languages, having lived in four countries, and with an Italian-Moroccan background, I can only say that I finally felt like I fit in when we assembled our team of writers and started publishing.

Making journalism with you has proven just in how many different ways stories can help shape and shift our perspectives. What we have achieved this year shows that a transnational community exists.

So I want to thank you, beloved members of The Correspondent

While handing out deadlines here and there, I have spent a lot of time listening to and brainstorming first story ideas. My own little victory was being able to produce our live events to bring you, our members, into our newsroom discussions and help shape our journalism.

Here is one of my favourite events:

AFRICA IN THE IMAGINATION
MAAZA MENGISTE, CORÉON DÚ, MAAME ADJEI, KHALID ALBAIH, LEBONGANG MASHILE, BLITZ BAZAWULE & ELIZA ANYANGWE

I remember biking to Eliza’s house to have our very first live event and I could feel the adrenaline rush. It was such a joy to hear the wise words of Maaza Mengiste, Coréon Dú, Maame Adjei, Khalid Albaih, Lebogang Mashile and Blitz Bazawule discussing how creativity is shaping how we imagine what ‘Africa’ is.  Every minute of that conversation was captivating and powerful.

It is of course heartbreaking to say goodbye to The Correspondent, but I’m also excited about what’s next: my dear friend Lara and I will start our weekly newsletter, "Bemused", where we share our scavenged inspiration that helps us understand the dizzying world around us.

You can subscribe here and we promise to lighten up your inbox with a soothing feed of recommendations. Expect short reviews of podcast episodes, articles, social media pages and just links to creative people and beautiful things we’ve been browsing each week.

All the best and happy holidays,

Sabrina Argoub
