2019 will see the Right Livelihood Award being presented for the 40th time. We invite you to participate in this historic milestone for the Award by submitting a nomination. As we maintain an open nomination process, anyone is able to propose any individual or organisation they feel are creating structural changes through concrete and successful work.
We are seeking new candidates for the Award from all walks of life who are leading change. The deadline for submitting a nomination is March 1st, 2019. We do not apply any special categories - the world is complex and interconnected. Human rights, health, environment, education, peace, culture, economy, justice, and democracy-building are some examples of issues addressed by our, so far, 174 Laureates from 70 countries.
Read more about the nomination process here. If you want to propose a candidate (preferably in English, but French and Spanish is also accepted), please follow these guidelines.
“The Award has given me an unprecedented platform and
access to decision makers which simply didn’t exist before.”
Tony Rinaudo (Australia, Laureate 2018)
“The Award is a recognition of the suffering of the women of Afghanistan and the need to continue supporting the Afghan people, particularly women in this country. It gives me more courage and supports my personal security.”
Sima Samar (Afghanistan, Laureate 2012)
Receiving the Right Livelihood Award can be a life-changing recognition of the Laureates’ work that opens many new doors and helps them achieve an even greater impact. For some Laureates, the Award itself can help protect their life and liberty.
Do not hesitate to contact us via email at research@rightlivelihood.org or by phone at +41 (0)22 555 0943 if you have questions about the nomination process. Please also feel free to share this information and our guidelines with your contacts and network and encourage them to also propose.
As is stated in our guidelines, we kindly ask that proposals for the award remain confidential and will not be published, as publicising of a proposal will unfortunately result in disqualification.
We hope to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Ole von Uexkull
