6 Ways to Survive
the Rainy Season

1. get a bright umbrella (stay dry, look cool)

2. get your social fix: join a Quest club or group

3. put on some happy music and dance like nobody’s watching

4. put on some happy music and dance with everybody watching

5. hide from it and dive into a good book

6. embrace it and dive into a puddle

Tutor Tip
from Dr. Marjorie Wonham

Life Sciences Tutor (Biology)

Birthday Cake Theory. Every project, paper or presentation is like a birthday cake. It needs to be done on time; no one wants you to bring the cake after the party. And it needs to be an actual cake; no one wants you to bring eggs and carrots and cream cheese.

Now, your cake vision may be ambitious: multiple layers, creamy icing, fancy decorations, glowing candles. But let’s be honest, a single layer would do. So, tackle your project like a cake. Bake the base layer. Then bake the second layer. Then spread the icing. Then add the decorations. Then add the candles. If you start with sprinkles… or if you try to stack up all the layers in just a quarter of the pan… or if you try to bake it with the candles in it… you see the problem.

BCT says that pretty much no matter when you have to stop, you’ll still have a cake. Which means you’ll probably get invited to the next birthday party.
