We enjoyed our summer, but it's just not the same without all the wonderful students who make our community come alive.
To all the faculty, staff and students, we're glad you're here and look forward to a terrific year together at Quest!

tutor tip from Dr. Richard Hoshino (mathematics faculty)
It's incredibly important to control the “open loops” of our lives. Open loops are any task that hasn't been completed, and can include everything from really big to-do items like "write my Keystone Project" to tiny tasks such as "buy a new stapler."
I have a notepad on which I write down all of my open loops so I'm not thinking about all the things I need to get done. This system allows me to dedicate 100% of my attention to whatever is at hand.
I have also decided to get rid of time-wasters—TV, smartphone, my personal Facebook account, etc.—that detract me from my calling and purpose.
I always reward myself at the end of each day by watching a show on Netflix with my wife, and also celebrate the completion of each milestone by going out to a fancy restaurant, for example. I encourage you to create your own rewards at the end of each day!

we've got good news
Quest's Summer Giving Campaign is still going strong!
With your generous assistance, we were able to purchase essentials for the field including a Thule roof rack for supplies; personal flotation devices and stocking-foot waders to get right to the source; rock hammers; pH measuring strips; and an equipment cart to help our students transport tools.
We also secured a special Kairos Blanket Exercise for new students, which is a participatory history lesson — developed in collaboration with Indigenous Elders – that fosters truth, understanding, respect and reconciliation among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
It's not too late to contribute! We've still got laboratory science items on the list to facilitate hands-on learning.
Thank you to those who have already donated. We couldn't do it without you!

7 things Quest students cannot live without
1. waterproof boots and an umbrella (yeah, it rains here)
2. cellphone (doubles as a camera and an alarm clock)
3. big pack of pens (because you will lose them all)
4. water bottle (the non-leaky kind)
5. pair of sneakers (hit the trails, not the snooze button)
6. laptop (actually mandatory)
7. caffeine (also mandatory)
