cornerstone [kawr-ner-stohn]
1 : a stone forming a part of a corner or angle in a wall specifically: such as a stone laid at a formal ceremony.
2 : a basic element: foundation, a cornerstone of policy.
3 : one of the fascinating first steps of the two-year Foundation Program at Quest. A building block to help students develop their personalized Questions.

Julie Miller, Director of Health & Wellness, offers her
top tips to survive and thrive this winter
Wake up and get up!
Oversleeping can result in making you even more tired. Resist the snooze button and get your day started early.

Energize with sunlight
A lack of light can lead to fatigue, low mood and altered sleep patterns. Spending time outdoors can help mitigate these effects. You can also take advantage of the sun lamps in the library, take a 10 minute walk outside before a study session or enjoy your morning coffee by a big window.

Treat yourself
Winter gives us the opportunity to slow down and listen to our bodies. It's the perfect season to focus on self-care like a relaxing massage, yoga class or spending some time journaling while we listen to the rain. Treat yourself to a small winter-specific luxury like cozy socks and candles, while curling up with a good book, a hot shower or a meditation.

Socialize
If you're fighting the winter blues, getting out and socializing may be one of the best things you could do for yourself. Social interaction can boost your mood and feelings of well-being. Whether you prefer small, intimate gatherings or you’re a fan of lively get-togethers, spend some time with friends at this time of year. Join a club, participate in an event or volunteer opportunity.

Get outside
Forcing yourself  to get outside and breathe the fresh air even if it's just for a short amount of time can make us feel refreshed and re-energized.

Move your body
Try to avoid a Netflix binge on a rainy afternoon and get your body moving instead. Exercise sends endorphins to your brain that positively impact your mood. Getting your heart rate up will keep you healthy, both mentally and physically.
