Sculptural Footwear Course: Artist-in-Residence Amara Hark-Weber leads students in designing and constructing their own shoes. Learn more about Amara.
"I don’t think people realize how much work goes into creating, and executing, a functional shoe design.

Taking creative risks every day improved the way I function as a Quest student, both academically and socially. What we put on our feet can inform the way we feel."

- Emily Weber '20
"These shoes aim to showcase a beauty which is everywhere around us in nature, but is often concealed or transformed beyond recognition in the things we humans create.

The wood is cedar from the clear-cut land adjacent to Quest, which I hope can help remind people that the materials we use actually come from specific locations."

- Graeme Lee Rowlands '19
"The shoes I created are unwearable. In lieu of functionality, they represent important issues that I struggle with on a day-to-day basis.

The construction of the shoes, from the initial idea to the final nail hammered into the wood sole, was a raw experience. It required literal blood, sweat and tears, but all three aspects came together to create an intensely personal and vulnerable final piece."

- JJ Fijal '20

We're collecting goods to donate to Squamish Christmas Community Care. If you have something you'd like to contribute, please do so before the collection deadline on December 17. Thank you!
