Asia finds joy in teaching people what it means to think mathematically, and helping them develop and communicate their own mathematical ideas. Her interests include problem design, creativity and communication, the geometry of paper folding, discrete mathematics, and the history of mathematics. “It’s especially rewarding to see wonder in the eyes of people who thought they disliked math,” she says.
She’s been involved in math outreach programs for elementary and high school students and their families. She also co-organizes a math education conference at Quest, is associate editor of the Americas Mathematics Society's College Math Journal, and is teaching four courses at MathPath, an advanced summer mathematics program for middle school kids.
