"No one just 'ends up' at Quest. I'm joining a community of teachers and learners who are making very deliberate, thoughtful choices about what they are doing, where they are doing it, and why."
- Dr. James McKinnon (Theatre)

James is recognized as one of New Zealand's most outstanding university teachers. He received teaching excellence awards in 2014 and 2016, and the National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award in 2017.

James is returning to Canada from Aotearoa, New Zealand, where he worked in the Theatre Programme at Victoria University of Wellington from 2011-17, serving as its director from 2015-17. He taught a variety of courses in theatre and performance studies, and directed student-devised performances investigating topics such as Italian Futurism and medieval liturgical drama. James previously taught at the University of Alberta (MA 2002) and Kwandong University in South Korea (2003-04), and completed a PhD at the University of Toronto in 2010. He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

James's scholarship reflects his commitment to learning and teaching creative practice.

OUR SUMMER GIVING
CAMPAIGN IS ON!

We're asking the community to help us raise much-needed funds to support Quest arts, sciences and field trips.

Donations directed to sciences will help students learn about the major scientific questions of our time, from DNA to climate change. Funds will go toward purchasing tools like an Orbital Shaker—a key piece of equipment in any molecular biology lab. This summer, Quest faculty member Dr. Marina Tourlakis is working with students Michael Geuenich and Marcos Da Silva to understand the evolution of genes associated with Shwachman–Diamond syndrome, a rare and debilitating congenital disorder. Their research on molecular malfunction is the kind of cutting-edge work that leads to breakthroughs in treatment. An Orbital Shaker will ensure constant temperature, oxygenation and movement of cells
the ideal conditions needed to yield more accurate results.
