Innovation doesn’t occur without challenges. Reports of broken module glass with no obvious cause have begun to crop up at large PV projects. In this edition, pv magazine examines what the root causes could be and why new testing methods could be key to unlocking a solution.
We get to grips with green hydrogen in the European Union. The first power-purchase agreement (PPA) for hydrogen production was signed in late 2022, but what might the future hold for this relatively new sector? Things are moving fast and EU policymakers’ desire to see hydrogen production scaled up raises plenty of questions around solar co-location and PPAs.
As utility-scale solar installations accelerate, one consequence is increased pressure on an already tight labor market. In the US state of Arizona, a recent robotics trial reveals how increased automation has potential to free up qualified staff to carry out more complex tasks.
And that’s not all - the winter edition is packed with the latest solar news and analysis, including:
  • Module rollercoaster: Examining the market as per watt prices take another dip
  • Snub me tender: Could Indian government action lead to utilities conducting their own procurement?
  • Australia’s battery balancing act: Geology meets ecology in the drive for mineral resources Down Under
  • Recycling polysilicon: Big challenges for manufacturers, material suppliers and more
  • Building bridges: A close look at Italian module manufacturer FuturaSun’s Chinese expansion
  • Decarbonizing disaster response: A growing role for solar in a crisis
  • Famine to feast: Looking back over China’s solar rebound in 2023 and the prospects for 2024
