Legislative Delegation Meeting to be held this week

The Legislative Delegation Meeting will be held on Friday, Jan. 13 from 1:30-5 pm at the Polk State College Center for Public Safety, 1251 Jim Keene Blvd, Winter Haven. The public meeting allows citizens, elected officials, local governments and other organizations to address the delegation before the start of the legislative session in March. If you've never attended one of these meetings, you will learn a lot about our elected officials and how they interact with community leaders and what specific groups ask their legislators for consideration, money, or help.

Polk Democrats invited to unite for MLK Parades

The Lakeland Democratic Club is calling on other Polk County clubs and caucuses to join them in participating in the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day Parade in Lakeland on January 21.

In addition to marchers for the parade, which starts at 1 pm, there is also a need for volunteers to help decorate a trailer that morning, from about 10 am. If interested, please contact Pat Jorgesen at patjorgesen@gmail.com for details.

ALSO: If you are unable to attend the Lakeland MLK Day Parade, please consider participating in or supporting parades and related activities in Winter Haven and Haines City.

Winter Haven will hold its 44th annual Dr Martin Luther Kind Jr Parade on SATURDAY, January 14, from 10 am, starting from MLK Park on Lake Silver, 199 East Lake Silver Drive Northeast, Winter Haven.

The 2023 theme is “Together We Can Be The Dream”.

Haines City will hold its parade on January 21, from 11 am - 12 pm, starting at Oakland Neighborhood Center, 915 Ave E, Haines City. This will be followed by a day of events at Myers & Wiley Field (Cook Field) from 1- 8 pm.

Winter Haven will hold its Dr Martin Luther King Day Jr Parade this Saturday.
It will start at MLK Park on Lake Silver, 199 East Lake Silver Drive Northeast, Winter Haven.

LWV Polk to have their first in-person meeting

League of Women Voters of Polk County is inviting all members and their guests to an in-person meeting on Sunday, Jan. 22, from 2-4 pm at Beacon Hills Fellowship in Lakeland.

Lisa Miller, Polk County School Board member, and Sarah Fortney, past school board member, will be featured speakers to discuss the topic “CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION”.
