This week's action focus: Get no-party affiliated allies to vote in the PCSB elections!
|
|
Many no-party affiliated voters, and some Democrats, do not realize Aug 23 is Election Day for four seats open on the Polk County School Board.
The school board election is countywide, meaning any eligible voter can select a candidate in each of the four districts. A lot is at stake with these local elections, due to the coordinated national GOP backing of candidates who hold extreme right-wing views that threaten the future and safety of local schools, students and communities.
The Polk County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) has endorsed Sarah Fortney (District 3), Sara Jones (District 6) and Dell Quary (District 7). The DEC also considers Kay Fields (District 5), to be the better of the two candidates in her race.
Please get involved in their campaigns! Please encourage your no-party affiliated contacts to get out and vote in these important elections!
Important dates
Vote by mail ballots: If you have not received a ballot, call the Polk County Supervisor of Elections office on (863) 534-5888. You have until August 13 to request a ballot in the mail. Mail early and track your ballot here.
Early voting: Sites to vote early will open August 13.

ALL eligible voters can also select between Republicans running in two State House Seats in Polk County, in the Universal Primaries.
When candidates in a primary race have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all qualified electors may vote for that office. It is recommended Democrats cast a ballot to elect the candidates who may come closest in representing our values. Please do your homework to find out more about these candidates.
State House Dist 50
Jennifer Canady and Phillip Walker
State House Dist 51
William 'Bill' Olson and Josie Tomkow

Please note: Democratic candidates who face no party opposition will go straight to the November General Election ballot. For a full list of candidates, click here.

URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
Polk County needs Democratic poll watchers!
Poll watchers are an important part of every election and act as the party's eyes and ears at poll locations.
There are two more elections in 2022 (Aug 23 and Nov 8) and the Polk DEC and Florida Democratic Party (FDP) is recruiting poll watchers for polling sites across the county! Each volunteer will be assigned to a polling site and will be asked to commit to a shift.
***FDP Poll Watchers must be registered Democrats in Polk County.

Congratulations to the many volunteers who spent the hot Florida weekend knocking doors, making calls and providing support for the Florida Democratic Party's 100 Day Out Weekend of Action. In Polk County alone, we had more than 20 volunteers across Davenport, Lake Wales and Winter Haven, reach out to about 400 voters and remind them the importance of getting out Aug 23, to vote in the Democratic primary and Polk County School Board elections. We also picked up a couple new volunteers!
Now that we are officially less than 100 days before the general election, we need to keep the momentum going. Until Nov 8, we will continue to canvass (door knock) every weekend and phonebank, to make sure Democrats turn out!
If you would like to volunteer in the office, contact Michelle Bradley, FDP Field Organizer for NW Polk County, mbradley@floridadems.org

Deadline this Week: Volunteers of the Month Recognition
The deadline for nominations of our August Volunteer of the Month closes COB Friday, Aug 5.
The Polk County Democratic Party relies on volunteers to keep voters and others engaged. And we acknowledge there are those who go above and beyond in their service to the party. While we are thankful for everyone who volunteers, we think it is fitting to acknowledge those of whom we routinely depend on. They are an inspiration to us and believe they can be an inspiration for others. Therefore, each month we will feature one volunteer a month in the weekly digest.
To make this recognition campaign successful, we need each caucus and club to nominate a volunteer who deserves some special recognition.
Nominations can be made by anyone to PolkDemWD@gmail.com
