MARKET COMMUNITY: CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE
Gary Goedecke
Beloved, Market crafter Gary Goedecke sold colorful, screen-printed aprons - a favorite of the public and Market community. Many flower vendors still wear them today! Gary also led the Pike Place Market Merchants Association for many years. He was a true Market character and known by people from all corners of the Historic District. Over the years he worked with the PDA to address concerns on behalf of his fellow craftspeople and merchants. Gary, a proud veteran, would often suddenly appear at the door of the Daystall office, and give staff a cheerful salute from his trademark ball cap with its rhinestone American flag pin.
Bill Stalder
Bill was an employee of the PDA for 25 years serving as data processing manager, Market Master and Deputy Director, overseeing operations of the PDA. He was known for his great ability to listen and improve relationships among staff and was named Employee of the Year. Leading up to his work at the Market, Bill opened the Market Café to provide low-cost meals to low-income elderly living in the area of the Pike Place Market. He was always interested in the stories of people he met and cared about their lives.
