Spotlight:
Transgender people and HIV in prisons

Transgender people often experience multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination in criminal justice systems. This criminalisation and marginalisation can lead to greater vulnerability to and risk of long-term mental and physical health issues, including increased risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and experience of sexual assault.

This month, UNODC together with WHO, UNAIDS, UNDP, and PRI, published a new technical brief with guiding principles and targeted interventions to support countries to reduce the risk of HIV infection and transmission among, and ensure adequate and accessible health care for, transgender people deprived of liberty.

Enhancing the role of the female police in Yemen

PRI is pleased to launch the second phase of our project to enhance the role of the female police in Yemen, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands. PRI needs your support

People in prisons around the world continue to be left behind and often experience violence, neglect and human rights violations. Our practical reform approach continues to challenge and overturn policies that lead to prison overcrowding. We tirelessly work to improve conditions of detention, engaging a wide range of stakeholders. Our work is critical in seeing long-term sustainable reforms so that human rights of the millions of people in prison or in conflict with the law are not forgotten and supported. To continue to do this, we need your support. A donation from you today will allow us to continue our leadership and innovation in the criminal justice system. Thank you.
