Balderson Announces Approval of Funds
for Former Hocking Hills Lodge Clean Up

COLUMBUS - State Senator Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville) today announced the release of state capital funds for the demolition of the former Hocking Hills State Park Lodge that was destroyed by fire on December 8, 2016.

Members of the Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of $84,000 to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in order to to completely demolish and remove remaining materials, floor slabs, retaining walls and foundations from the site of the former state park lodge.

"This increase of funds will help alleviate the total cost and allow ODNR to complete the removal of the destroyed lodge," said Senator Balderson. "This is another opportunity to reduce safety hazards and promote use of this area of the park."

The original appropriation, in addition to this increase, is funded by the preliminary settlement provided by the insurance company to ODNR as a result of the fire claim.

"Hocking Hills is a crown jewel in our community and I am grateful to the local leaders who are working hard on plans to rebuild and restore what was lost after the fire," Balderson added.
