Dear Davenport,

After much community and Opposition pressure -- and with the Omicron variant spreading -- the Ontario government announced they are ramping up access to boosters and finally making rapid tests more accessible.

Here's a summary of the latest changes. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.

  • starting on Monday, December 20th, everyone 18 and up will be eligible for a third/booster vaccination shot;
  • the required wait between second and third dose/booster has been reduced to 84 days from 168 days;
  • pharmacies can begin providing boosters for 18 and older residents at the three month interval, starting on Friday December 17;
  • capacity limits of 50% will be reinstated at all stadiums, arenas, concert halls, theatres and event spaces with capacity of greater than 1000 people;
  • the government is partnering with LCBO to make take home rapid tests available for free at up to 660 LCBO outlets and other locations in coming weeks.
While a great deal remains unknown right now, government and health experts remain concerned that high numbers of infections could swamp our hospitals and other healthcare facilities. We expect new modelling to be released by the Ontario Science Table tomorrow, and more measures could be rolled out on Friday. We will keep you posted and I will continue to raise your concerns and ideas with the Government. Please reach out!

You can book your appointment through the Ontario government COVID vaccination portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900. If you have any questions or difficulties, please call my community office.

Also, please join my team and I for a holiday 'drop in' tomorrow -- Thursday December 16 -- from 3:30-5:30PM OUTSIDE my community office at 1199 Bloor St. West (near Bloor & Brock). We'll have hot chocolate, coffee and treats, and I would love to see you to say hello, and wish you all the best of the season, safely in person! I hope you can make it.

Once again, it is such a pleasure to serve as your Member of Provincial Parliament...I have been visiting with many of you on your doorsteps, checking in to see how you are doing and sharing information. I really appreciate all the ideas you share. It is truly inspiring to see how much our community cares for each other, for our environment, for our city.

Stay well and thanks for all you do.
