Sunday, August 12, from 9 am – 2 pm, JOIN US for a “beach party” on the banks of the Rio Grande River! Where the Department of Homeland Security plans to establish a lifeless "enforcement zone" behind the Border Wall, our presence will be the protest; so, pack a picnic and gather the whole family for a variety of great activities, like Segway test drives, sand castle building with Sandyfeet, fishing, bird walks and guided hikes, a hayride, Project Wild Aquatic at our new wetland, guerrilla gardening, a native wildlife petting zoo, tug o' war over an open mud pit and MORE!
Bring your bikes and beach chairs for outdoor exploration, sunbathing, butterflying and a blessing of the river, once a vibrant recreational area to which access for all of Hidalgo County will soon be eliminated. Families interested in camping out the night before are also invited to sleep over under the stars with our staff and experience the beauty and tranquility of this wild and wonderful place as few others have.
This event will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the March to Save Mission. Check out this event on our Facebook page, as we continue to add vendors and participants when we receive their commitments.
Texas Butterfly Festival
Unlike in recent drought years, exceptional rains throughout the Rio Grande Valley bode very well for the 23rd Annual Texas Butterfly Festival. In fact, the National Butterfly Center is bursting into bloom, as are spectacular sites for which we’ve scheduled tours.
If you are planning to attend, register soon. Select trips are starting to SELL OUT.
And don’t forget the North American Butterfly Photo Contest, because your best shot could win the $500 ‘Grande’ Prize. Grab your camera and get outdoors so you are ready when the contest portal opens for submissions September 1 – 30.
We can’t wait to receive you in Mission, Texas, where the butterflies are always wonderful and the camaraderie warm at the country’s very best place to enjoy an abundance of wild, free-flying butterflies across exceptionally diverse habitats during the peak of migration season.
Bucket List Butterflying!
Often described as a ‘bucket list’ trip, the trek to Michoacan, Mexico, for the migration of the Monarchs is a magical experience! The National Butterfly Center is proud to sponsor its second trip for members and guests to witness this enchanting congregation overwintering in the oyamel fir forests at El Rosario Sanctuary and other preserves high in the mountains.
We racked up over 116 species and lots of precious memories last year, so REGISTER TODAY for 2018, and join us for this all-inclusive BUTTERFLY BONANZA!!!
