ExoPAG 20: Apply for Student Travel Awards!

NASA's Exoplanet Program Analysis Group (ExoPAG) and NASA's Exoplanet Exploration Program (ExEP) Office invites all postdocs and graduate students interested in the intersection of exoplanets and space-based astronomy to attend the ExoPAG meeting on Sunday June 23rd, 2019 in Bellevue WA (immediately preceding AbSciCon 2019).

This year, the ExoPAG 20 meeting will include a science theme focusing on observational, theoretical and synergistic work related to efforts to characterize habitable exoplanets. Travel support is available for up to three postdoc or graduate student participants to present their research at this session. For example, we welcome presentations that address:
  • The occurrence rate of habitable zone terrestrial planets
  • Ground-based observations and instrumentation needed to discover and characterize terrestrial exoplanets
  • Solar system and exoplanet synergies
  • Near-term observing prospects and challenges for habitable zone planets (e.g. JWST and ground-based)
  • Future use of, and synergies between, ground- and space-based observing resources
  • The interdisciplinary research needed to support interpretation of data on terrestrial exoplanets
  • Other relevant areas of nearby exoplanetary system(s) research
APPLY NOW
While attendees are encouraged to combine their visit with the AbSciCon 2019 meeting, ExoPAG talks should be tailored to address NASA’s exoplanet program, including Kepler/K2, TESS, JWST, WFIRST, as well as other missions; NASA’s exoplanet ground support efforts such as Keck, LBTI, IRTF, and NN-Explore; mission concept studies such as OST, LUVOIR, HabEx and Lynx; and general data archiving, follow-up organization, and tool development related to exoplanet research and missions at the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute (NExScI) and Nexus for Exoplanet Systems Science (NExSS).

More information can be found on the ExoPAG website.

The ExoPAG recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in producing the most innovative and impactful science. We especially encourage graduate students and postdocs from underrepresented backgrounds in science to apply for this travel support to present their research at the ExoPAG 20 meeting.

Postdocs and graduate students should read the guidelines prior to applying and submitting their abstract. For questions regarding postdoc and grad student travel support, please contact student-travel@jpl.nasa.gov.

To be eligible, postdocs and graduate students affiliated with a US institution must submit an application and an abstract by 5 p.m. PDT May 10, 2019 to be considered for this travel support. The NASA ExoPAG Executive Committee will make the selections by May 20th. We expect to select up to three students to give presentations and be awarded travel support. Students will be notified by May 23, 2019.
