Santa Maria Meet & Greet
In 2017, our humble beginnings in Santa Maria started with just one dedicated team member. Fast-forward seven years, and our Santa Maria family has grown to 23 strong, encompassing diverse programs such as MILA, Proyecto ACCESO, Tequio, Labor Justice, Indigenous Interpretation Services, and more!

It was heartening to engage with local partners, agencies, promotoras, and the community at our first Santa Maria Meet & Greet last Thursday, May 30, at Urban Blosser Gardens. We sincerely appreciate those who shared a beautiful evening with us, and we hope to see you soon at future Santa Maria events!

Night in Oaxaca

Our team has chosen a powerful theme for this year - "Nuestra Voz, Nuestro Poder / Our Voice, Our Power." This theme embodies the essence of our mission: to organize, support, and empower the Indigenous migrant community located on California's Central Coast.

At MICOP, we believe that every voice holds a unique story, dreams, and strength that should be recognized and celebrated. This theme reflects our steadfast commitment to amplifying these voices and harnessing their collective power for positive change. Let's embrace this theme as we work towards advocating for justice, equality, and empowerment together.

Join us on August 9 for Night in Oaxaca: Nuestra Voz, Nuestro Poder

MICOP at the CCWP Worker Power Assembly!
On May 14 and 15, the California Coalition for Worker Power (CCWP) hosted MICOP alongside UC Merced Community Labor Center, UC Davis Labor and Community Center, University of California Labor Centers, CBOs across the state, organizations, advocates, and worker leaders from across California. On the first day, we celebrated our collective wins, assessed obstacles and opportunities to build worker power and bridged relationships of solidarity. On the second day, we co-led and participated in legislative visits to advance pro-worker policies!

MICOP’s policy director, Terán, along with CCWP campaign director, Rachel Deutsch, co-led a workshop on “Worker Power Policy in 2024.” This event featured presentations from MICOP staff, including a first co-presentation by our wage theft investigators, Ofelia Flores and Armando Santiago, and CWOP staff, Fabian Garcia and Susana Arce. Representatives from CBDIO and the Black Worker Hub co-presented and also contributed to the discussion. The workshop delved into key priorities for 2024, such as preserving PAGA, advocating for a permanent CWOP, supporting SB 1340 (a local anti-discrimination bill), and establishing an unemployment benefits program for undocumented communities (SN4A).
