Healing Land, Collective Power
On June 25, 2024, Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), MICOP, and Líderes Campesinas gathered to release the report "Healing Land, Collective Power"—the culmination of two years of research and visioning on developing farmworker cooperatives.

The report makes the case that Ventura County should take current farming challenges as opportunities for change to create a restorative and just agriculture industry through the development of farmworker-led cooperatives and land trusts.

SB 1016 to Improve Indigenous And Latine Data & Health Equity Moves Forward in California Legislature
On Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, the Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP), the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo, and Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oxaqueño was pleased to announce that Senate Bill 1016, The Latine and Indigenous Disparities Reduction Act, successfully moved from the Assembly Health Committee to the Appropriations Committee. This marks a significant step forward in our efforts to understand the health needs of our communities.

Senate Bill 1016, authored by Senator Gonzalez, aims to realign the current data disparities faced by Latino and Mesoamerican Indigenous nations. The bill received strong support in the Assembly Health Committee, where it was reviewed and passed with a 15-0 vote! We express appreciation to Assemblymember Mia Bonta and the Committee.

The move to the Appropriations Committee is a critical step in the legislative process, where the fiscal impact of the bill will be reviewed. We are confident that the bill will continue to receive the support it deserves.
For more information about Senate Bill 1016 and its journey through the legislature, please contact Vanessa Terán, Policy Director at vanessa.teran@mixteco.org.

SB 1016 + Assembly Appropriations Opt-out Letter
After passing the policy committee, SB 1016 the Latine and Indigenous Disparities Reduction Act is now in suspense in Assembly Appropriations. TAKE ACTION!
As we continue to work with the Assembly Appropriations Committee to ensure SB 1016  moves on to the Assembly Floor, please find an opt-out coalition letter of support for SB 1016 HERE

  • Opt-in: If you see your logo and designated signatory at the bottom of the letter and would like to remain signed-on, no further action is required.
  • Opt-out: If you would like to be removed from the letter please let me know by Wednesday, August 7th at 12 pm

If you don't see your organization listed and would like to be included please submit your logo to Vanessa Terán at vanessa.teran@mixteco.org and CC Mar Velez at mvelez@lchc.org.
