Assalam alaikum,
The Muslim Community of Ann Arbor with other Muslims communities around the country condemns the barbaric attack in Pittsburgh which left 11 dead as they were engaged in worship. A place of worship is an abode of peace, refuge and harmonay and not of grief and sorrow. There is no place for hate in our society and all of us have to work diligently to safe guard our diverse communities.
The events in Pittsburg brought to light the importance of safety. We want everyone in our community to know that the MCA is prioritizing safety.
Working with AAPD and law enforcement agencies. As mentioned in previous communication it is the policy of the Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor and vicinity (MCA) and its staff to inform law enforcement about any suspicious activity. As always, we are committed to working closely with the AAPD and other law enforcement agencies to help keep the Ann Arbor community safe.
Being an active part of the broader Ann Arbor Community, the MCA is engaged with the city as well as the interfaith community to combat xenophobia.
The threat of an active shooter attack is rare (an American’s lifetime odds of dying in a mass shooting committed in any location is 1 in 11,125; of dying in a car accident is 1 and 491; of drowning is 1 in 1,133; and of choking on food is 1 in 3,461) but the sad reality though is that it is also very real and the MCA has been proactive in aiming to eradicate the threat while preparing to improve chances of survival.
