Announcements

We're thrilled that the 2022 LTER All Scientists Meeting will be in person September 19-23, 2022. This year, we're soliciting proposals for Workshop Tracks, a 3-workshop series that fits together to achieve greater progress and innovation. Track proposals are due February 15.

We are also accepting proposals for single workshops, social events, field trips, posters, and exhibits. These are due later this spring. See the meeting webpage for a list of due dates, and more information about each event category.
The LTER Network Office has recently expanded staff support of synthesis efforts by adding two postdocs and two data analysts. The new researchers will engage with LTER synthesis groups to improve remote collaboration, serve as a resource in reproducible analysis, devote concentrated effort to challenging analyses, and ensure that derived datasets and code are curated and archived according to FAIR standards.

The 2022 Science Council Meeting will be IN PERSON in Phoenix between May 16 and 19. More details to come.
The American Institute of Biological Sciences hosts their Congressional Visits Day virtually this year. The event begins with a half-day training on April 26, followed by online meetings with members of congress between April 27 and 29. This is a great opportunity to advocate for science policy at a high level.

They also offer a Communications Boot Camp for Scientists on April 25-26.

DEIA Resource of the Month

Who are we? Highlighting Nuances in Asian American Experiences in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Asian Americans are underrepresented in ecology and too often unrecognized in broader DEI conversation. This new paper, written by researchers from universities across the nation, includes guidelines for anti-Asian racism and recommendations for how institutions can reframe DEI policy to stress Asian American justice. Five emergent themes from an LTER Network Organic Matter Synthesis
- Mareli Sanchez-Julia
Organic matter has a global influence, but often studies focus on local dynamics. The Organic Matter Synthesis Group worked together to reveal key trends in organic matter processing, storage and transport across ecosystems. Read more >>
Palmer LTER researchers track complete humpback migrations
- Gabriel De La Rosa
Palmer researchers used satellite tags to chart the full northbound migration of Southeast Pacific humpbacks-a first for the species. Their results provide important context for humpback conservation and new insight into humpback behavior. Read more >>
